Rick: It's the 111th anniv. of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.
Mary Anne Trasciatti: Some of the girls who died in that fire were as young as 13, 14 years old. We'll be dedicating a memorial on March 25th. @MATrasciatti@NYUpress#RemembertheTriangleFire#TriangleFire
Mary Anne Trasciatti: Frances Perkins witnessed the fire & was so moved, she became one of the investigators to look into working conditions around New York. So many of the workplace protections we have today are from the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. @MATrasciatti@NYUpress
Mary Anne Trasciatti: We have chapters in the book concerning the lack of black workers in the garment workers; young women from Italy & eastern Europe; descendants of the Triangle Fire workers; & activists. @MATrasciatti@NYUpress#RemembertheTriangleFire#TriangleFire
Mary Anne Trasciatti: There was a strike in 1909, the Uprising of the 20,000. It was the largest strike up to its time, inspired by the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. A lot of the companies met the workers' demands for safety issues among other demands. @MATrasciatti@NYUpress
Mary Anne Trasciatti: Rick, you were right when you said the doors were locked in the factory, but it wasn't just to keep workers from stealing--it was also to keep union organizers out. @MATrasciatti@NYUpress#RemembertheTriangleFire#TriangleFire
Sarah Burris: I have never been so embarrassed for a party. Just when you thought the GOP couldn't get any worse... Remember when Kavanaugh said his confirmation hearing was the worst experience of his life? Really? Then he was lucky. @SarahBurris@RawStory
Sarah Burris: GOP kept comparing Judge Jackson's confirmation hearing with those of Amy Coney Barrett & Kavanaugh. Amy Coney Barrett wears her religion on her sleeve; that's why questions concerning her religion were more relevant. Not so with Judge Jackson @SarahBurris@RawStory
Sarah Burris: Lisa Murkowski won a write-in vote with a name like Murkowski. Do you know how long it must have taken to teach everyone to spell "Murkowski"?! @SarahBurris@RawStory
Liliana Calderon: It was dumb luck that I became a bricklayer--I was in the right place at the right time. I was doing service industry work & came across a group that helps women get into nontraditional jobs for women. @IUBAC
Liliana Calderon: I did my apprenticeship & loved it; it's been a great path for me. @IUBAC
Liliana Calderon: Some of my friends went to college & aren't working in the field they studied. I tell them to go into the trades--it's free training, I make good money, and at the end I'll get a pension. I was able to buy my own home, too. @IUBAC
Joe Trippi: One of the interesting things was the flight trackers who track flights from Moscow. The Russian oligarchs are fleeing to Dubai. Manafort tried to get to Dubai but his passport was invalid. It's pretty suspicious. @JoeTrippi@ProjectLincoln
Joe Trippi: We've created a website where everyone can join to try to defeat the authoritarian movement in the U.S. There's no donation page or anything like that. It's open to all people, no matter political party, etc. jointheunion.us/townhall/ @JoeTrippi@ProjectLincoln
Joe Trippi: People can sign up to volunteer in various capacities at JointheUnion.us. We've already had 50,000 Americans join, & we're hoping many more will join to defend our democracy. @JoeTrippi@ProjectLincoln
Tom Arnold: Mark Pomerantz is a brilliant attorney. Trump isn't president any more. He's a loser hanging out at his club, entertaining people. People are lying when they say Trump would have stopped Putin. @TomArnold
Tom Arnold: I assume Putin is sick, that he's getting some kind of medical treatment besides the filler in his face. It's scary when that happens because he worries about his legacy. @TomArnold
Tom Arnold: Joe Biden is taking so much crap. I personally think he's doing a great job. He kept all those people together in Europe. He really doesn't want to start WWIII. @TomArnold
John Rizzo: We've been bargaining for about a year with WTTW (TV) in Chicago. We've been working with them for about 50 years. Just before the pandemic, WTTW got a new leader & middle management was moved up to upper management, & things fell apart then. @Window2workers@IBEW
John Rizzo: We gave WTTW a year's extension to allow their new CEO to get her feet under her. They eventually backed us into a corner & we had no option other than to strike. @Window2workers@IBEW
John Rizzo: The problem is the company wants to take video & TV from outside the station, taking video from the public & from other TV stations.
Rick: They want freebies.
John: Absolutely. They're mooching off the goodwill of others to put on a TV show. @Window2workers@IBEW
Rick: I can't get away from people complaining about the cost of gas.
Jessica Azulay: We are experiencing increased heating costs in our homes & buildings; we're hearing from so many people who can't afford their heating bills. @agreenewyork
Jessica Azulay: It's so common sense to put solar panels on all the places we can. I have solar panels on my roof--it's like I bought a miniature power plant & installed it on my roof. The upfront costs are high so we need programs to help people with those. @agreenewyork
Rick: We didn't get electricity or plumbing into people's homes by piecemeal--we had policies that required them. The same should be for solar panels w/ help for upfront costs. #RickShow
