1/ There's a @nationalpost article that's receiving a lot of ire because it amplifies two extreme right-wing European MPs' responses to PM Trudeau's speech in Brussels. I read the article and see how the headline does not match the content.
2/ The headline refers to the PM's speech as "surreal" and just says "European MPs denounce" - so I can see why it's getting attn. But I do think it would help to read the article. The two right-wing MPs' responses had gone viral, so this IS news. The article provides context.
3/ From the article: "Kolakusic, a Croatian lawyer, sits in parliament as an Independent. In January, he lambasted French President Emmanuel Macron over vaccines when he was before the EU. In that exchange, Kolakusic compared vaccine mandates to capital punishment."
4/ By the way, I'm not going to link the article because it includes Kolakusic's tweet (embedded) and I'd rather not amplify that.
5/ Also from the article: "Anderson is a member of the Alternative for Germany, a popular far right party that opposes the European Union as well as immigration to Germany."
6/ These two MPs are on the side of the convoy, who broke laws - the organizers are in court as we speak. The purpose of the convoy was to take siege of Ottawa and important borders, until the PM resigned. Their motivation was to overthrow the govt.
7/ I find it particularly curious that the MPs used almost identical (misleading) talking points to those of the furthest right leaning Canadian politicians like Bernier et al. Rational Canadians ignore Bernier. Thankfully, PPC candidates did not win ONE seat in Cda's parliament.
8/ Also from the article: "In speech that has gone viral, MEP Mislav Kolakusic of Croatia, who has compared vaccine mandates to murder" (and includes a link to James Wells' FB post about this facebook.com/James.Freeman.…)
9/ And while I don't expect a right-leaning outlet to provide praise for the PM (their prerogative), since the article focuses mostly on the two MPs, I see no need to amplify their message by sharing a link.
10/ I've had a few people share the following thread by @gmbutts with me, in response to my (this) thread - so I'm going to add a link to it
11/ And not mentioned in the NP article, but worth noting:
"Speaking to packed public galleries, Trudeau received a standing ovation when he said the European Union and NATO are more united than ever in the face of Russian President Vladimir Putin's war." ici.radio-canada.ca/rci/en/news/18…
Anyone-else think the CPC interim leader sank to a new low today when she falsely claimed the fed NDP and fed governing Liberal party of "working for Putin" because of their new confidence-and-supply agreement?
1/ Thread:
Info on Cdn major religions’ stances on Covid-19 vaccinations, article(s) and a tweet for each major religion, put together to counter the anti-vaxxer’s talking point/excuse of avoiding Covid-19 vaccinations on religious grounds.
2/ Before adding tweets to this thread, per religion, here is a graphic with the distribution of religious affiliations, population aged 15 and older, Canada, 2017 to 2019 Statistics Canada www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/11-627-…
3/ On ingredients:
(Abbrev) “[S]ome religions prohibit the use of certain byproducts like beef, pork or stem cells [but] none of those ingredients are proven to be included in any of the COVID-19 vaccines.” globalnews.ca/news/8251956/c…
1/ Here’s a (short) thread linking tweets and articles with some useful info related to the Calgary municipal election, Oct 18, 2021 – specifically re mayoral candidates:
2/ I'm listening to a presser on @CBCNews right now. Chyron: "Members of big city mayors' caucus speak before meeting PM Trudeau today in Ottawa."
This reminds me of how important it is that we vote for our choice of mayor, as they advocate for Calgary to the feds.
- really don't think I should have to get a booster, simply bec I mixed my doses: AZ & Pfizer, holding off for now. Many of us received the AZ, in a way to protect our communities, & cannot see anything wrong w mixed dosing. Why is the US unsure about this?
ref (abbrev) "The U.S. is also awaiting guidance from the CDC about travellers who received mixed doses of COVID-19 vaccines or the AZ vaccine. The U.S. has not approved the mixing of vaccine doses or the AstraZeneca vaccine for its own residents." cbc.ca/news/canada/us…
3/ that said (see my top tweet), we have no plans to travel to the US anytime soon. They are struggling more with containing Covid-19 - less vaccinated, higher case counts, especially the states we would be driving through to get elsewhere: Montana and/or Idaho
