The House Oversight Committee will be holding a #MedicareForAll hearing on Tuesday — the first since the pandemic began and exposed just how much harm our for-profit healthcare system has done to families and our economy.
#MedicareForAll would guarantee high-quality healthcare to every single person in America. "Healthcare is a human right," means there are no physical, bureaucratic or financial barriers to care — which is what #M4A delivers. ⬇️
2⃣ #MedicareForAll removes the red tape and financial barriers to care. When you're sick, you can just see your doctor. There would be no more worrying about which doctors are in your insurance company's network, if you've hit your deductible or if your visit will be covered. ⬇️
3⃣ #MedicareForAll covers vision, dental, hearing, mental health, reproductive care, substance treatment, long term care and more. #M4A is about keeping your entire self healthy.⬇️
4⃣ #MedicareForAll would save families a lot of money by eliminating unnecessary and expensive premiums, co-pays and deductibles. Instead of the government giving subsidies to insurance companies, they would give it to your doctors to cover the cost of your care. ⬇️
5⃣ No one should be left to die or go into debt because they can't afford their medication— this should be something we can all agree on.
#MedicareForAll caps a person's yearly prescription costs at $200 per year. ⬇️
6⃣ Right now the U.S. ranks dead last in healthcare outcomes because of the financial and bureaucratic barriers to care.
By eliminating those barriers with #MedicareForAll, roughly 68,000 American lives would be saved each year. ⬇️
7⃣ Small businesses pay, on average, $6,485 per individual and $13,737 per family, per employee each year.
#MedicareForAll would remove the financial burden from employers allowing them to focus on growing their businesses and giving them the ability to raise wages.⬇️
8⃣ #MedicareForAll is a job creator. #M4A would create an estimated 2.3 million new healthcare jobs, and up to 17 million new jobs when you factor in new long-term care employment opportunities. ⬇️
Small practices would save $83,000 a year and 9 hours a week by eliminating the administrative time associated with health insurance companies. This would allow them to see more patients and expand their practices. ⬇️
🔟 Congress has a mandate to be fiscally responsible.
By funding healthcare and not subsidizing the unnecessary middleman of health insurance companies, #MedicareForAll would save an estimated $458 billion per year and cost $600 billion less than a Public Option. ⬇️
In 2021, the top 5 health insurance received $35 billion from the U.S. government and reported $39.6 billion in profit.
We should be helping people by funding healthcare, not helping CEOs increase their wealth by funding health insurance company profits.⬇️
Over the last 20 years, the insurance, health and pharmaceutical industry spent over $10 billion in lobbying to protect their profits by keeping healthcare inaccessible, expensive and designed to maximize profits instead of health outcomes.
The corruption is killing us.⬇️
Unfortunately, because taking money from lobbyists is bipartisan, so is opposing #MedicareForAll and other solutions that would lower healthcare costs.
We must end the lobbyist control over Congress by making sure we're electing people committed to refusing their money.⬇️
Universal healthcare with #MedicareForAll is not only morally and fiscally responsible, but overwhelmingly supported across the aisle by voters with 69% support.
Only Congress and the lobbyists cutting them checks are holding us back from the solutions we need.
⬇️
As an allied health professional, I've see our broken healthcare system from the inside— and how it harms our families physically and financially.
Recuse, Resign and Step Aside: I’m calling for the removal of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas from his seat. 🧵⬇️
“Clarence Thomas must recuse, resign, and step aside. The reports that his wife repeatedly used her influence to try and overturn the 2020 Presidential election are deeply disturbing, but not surprising. ⬇️
For years, Ginni Thomas has used her husband's position to further herself and her radical, right-wing agenda—and for years, he has tipped the scales in her favor. All the while, the dark money groups fueling their priorities continue to reap the benefits and build power. ⬇️
President Joe Biden laid out a vision to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic crisis that have challenged working families across the country. ⬇️
If our federal government can come together to adopt progressive policies that prioritize working families over corporations…
⬇️
there is a path forward that allows us to emerge from this period of collective struggle as a healthier, more equitable, and more compassionate society than we have ever been before.
⬇️
People would move from their restrictive insurance plans and upgrade to #MedicareForAll
No more private insurance with varying degrees of coverage, restrictive networks, dealing with insurance bureaucracy or medical bills.
⬇️
Universal healthcare with #MedicareForAll would be government-funded, not government-run.
Government funding would go directly to paying for your healthcare— eliminating your co-pays and premiums, instead of going towards insurance industry subsidies.

People are living longer, earning less and their quality of life is declining. The dream of retirement isn’t something many seniors can realize. #NY3 has over 155,000 adults over the age of 65. The problems they face are policy choices we can correct. Here are some ways how:
🧵⬇️
Over 60% of seniors depend on Social Security for most of their income and one-third rely on it for virtually all of it.
Without Social Security, the poverty rate of seniors would be nearly 41%. We must protect and expand it.
⬇️
The average adult over 65 receives a social security check of $1,437.55 per month. Unfortunately, the average expenses of an adult 65 and older is $4,008.83.
A cause of this problem? Right now, a billionaire pays as much into social security as someone who is middle class.
⬇️
By the looks of it, the next Representative for #NY3 will need a boat to serve all constituents.
Below is my statement on the alleged new congressional maps for #NY3 ⬇️
“By the looks of it, the next Representative for New York’s Third Congressional District will need a boat to cross the Long Island Sound to serve all constituents.
“We cannot stay silent as we watch the state legislature float a map that extreme gerrymanders our district... ⬇️
The new proposal would take our district from currently containing three counties to soon containing five, including just slivers from the Bronx and Westchester that are separated from the rest by the Long Island Sound. ... ⬇️
We must protect voting rights to secure our elections, but our democracy will always be under attack as long as corporations are allowed to buy the people who were elected to represent us.
To protect democracy, we must end the corruption.
🧵⬇️
Nothing that ever helped working families started with a corporate lobbyist cutting a check to a member of Congress.
If you want to see why a problem isn't being fixed, just follow the money back to the people profiting from it remaining broken.
⬇️
Between January 1st and September 30th 2021, lobbyists spent over $2.74 billion buying the votes of members of Congress, spreading propaganda and influencing elections.
This corruption has attacked our rights, rigged our courts and denied us real solutions.
