A sobering read: @ProfMMurray on what the #KBJ confirmation hearings presage about the coming conservative jihad to strip us of our rights, backed by a court majority that scoffs at precedents… washingtonpost.com/outlook/2022/0…
A clip-and a reminder that the only federal rights enumerated in the original U.S. constitution belonged to land-owning white men. Women had none. Black people were slaves. The indigenous, disabled, LGBT etc had zip. So “originalism” essentially means states can exclude them all.
That logic could undo everything from Brown v Board to Loving, to the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts to Roe to the rulings affirming legalized contraception, same sex marriage, affirmative action, and on and on. Hard to argue that’s not the slope we’re on. One more clip:

We discussed this on Friday on @thereidout. Not only did @HawleyMO praise a light sentence (probation) for a cop who strangled his girlfriend with a shirt and orally raped her, he also formed a sex trafficking task force that members called just for show.
And it should be mentioned that @HawleyMO’s “soft on sex crime” record came when he was the top law enforcement official in Missouri as that state’s attorney general, and an apparent publicity hound. kansascity.com/opinion/reader…
Beyond that, Hawley has repeatedly voted to confirm white male nominees to the federal bench who had sentencing records in similar cases that were identical to #KetanjiBrownJackson’s record. The only other difference? Trump nominated them. washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/…
Clearly the answer to the right wing question #WhatIsAWoman is: a person you collect a bounty on if she tries to get an abortion and who you shrug at and say "have the baby or we'll sue you" if she gets raped. Also: someone whose job is to have big boobs and get men a sandwich.
Also #WhatIsAWoman -- A person, whether cis or trans, old or young, whom the right does not feel they need bother to respect if she is not white or MAGA or Christian or conservative. Even if she is a sitting federal judge. I think that about sums it up. thenation.com/article/politi…
.@LindseyGrahamSC is an embarrassment to the United States Senate. His performative vitriol and hostility to Judge Jackson whom he has repeatedly voted to elevate to the federal bench; and who he's now treating like a Black shopper he's following around the store, is repugnant.
Lindsey thinks the purpose of this hearing is to personally get revenge for Amy Barrett and accused teen rapist Brett Kavanaugh-and to vent his spleen about his SC candidate not being the nominee. Well @LindseyGrahamSC we already knew who you were. Thanks for confirming our view.
Lindsey and the other Confederates @SenTomCotton & @HawleyMO are trying to put a stain on #KetanjiBrownJackson that matches the stain on Clarence (who was accused of pushing porn on unwilling women) & Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexually violating high school and college women.
While @TomCottonAR is badgering Judge #KetanjiBrownJackson re rape and other crime, and @HawleyMO@tedcruz@LindseyGrahamSC etc attacked her about child pornography, a reminder that the girls Brett Kavanaugh was accused of sexually violating were high school and college students.
I don't recall any of their outrage about that. Also: speaking of crime, as @ElieNYC has asked: do they think people convicted of committing violent insurrection against the United States should be sentenced to more time, or less than they have been by present federal judges?
Here are the allegations that we know of, against Republicans' favorite justice post-Scalia: Brett Kavanaugh... businessinsider.com/brett-kavanaug…
Oh joy. @tedcruz is now doing his distinctive brand of whingey white conservative male performance art; trying to goad #KetanjiBrownJackson into denouncing Critical Race Theory and the #1619Project, neither of which Cruz is smart enough to understand.
The bottom line for the right is that to be qualified for a SCOTUS seat, or really any position in “their” America, Black people must ritualistically disown and denounce Black people, Black thought, Black culture, Black history and any and all racial and historical consciousness.
They must vow to only and always defend white Christian male sovereignty over America, as enumerated in the original constitution. No white candidate for any office is required to similarly denounce white supremacy, white Christian nationalism, or even insurrection. We see y’all.
Please note, as @ElieNYC has previously pointed out, how insurrectionist Senator @HawleyMO is using openly Q-anon framing to try to turn Judge Jackson into a child pornography apologist — the exact strategy used by right wing groups to try to ban books by Black & LGBT authors.
Hawley doesn’t have actual evidence of this. He’s just throwing it out there for the purposes of smearing Judge Jackson, to aggrandize himself with with the nutso wing of his party, and to thus set himself up for success with the DeSantis/MAGA wing of Republican voters.
And like he had no problem with endangering his own Senate and House colleagues by pumping a fist to the violent lynch mob who came to the Capitol hunting for Mike Pence and @SpeakerPelosi, he has no problem endangering Judge Jackson by putting her in the target hairs of Q-anon.
