• Relaxed Forehead
• Partially Closed Eyelids

SCOTUS makes history w/ #KetanjiBrownJackson ascending to the bench. However I maintain that the system of nominating & confirming judges to SCOTUS is broken and her exceptional qualifications don't cover up the corruption & malfeasance that placed her recent predecessors there
If a secret ballot of Senators was taken before the hearings , and revealed after today's final vote the results would likely be identical 53-47. Nobody changes thier minds during confirmation hearings, "swing votes" like Ben Sasse are mostly playing at being undecided for TV
McConnell will NOT hold SCOTUS hearings for any future Democratic presidential nominations if the GOP holds the Senate, a precedent that will be followed by ANY GOP Senate leader from now on. SCOTUS is now in a constant state of reputational and constitutional crisis

The first Black woman vice president, ⁦@VP⁩ ⁦@KamalaHarris⁩ presides over the vote confirming Judge #KetanjiBrownJackson to the Supreme Court. What a moment in Black history and American history! 🙅🏿‍♀️🎉
Every no vote will be remembered. Trust. And the Republican Party will pay for it for a generation.
Watching all the bitter old white guys on the Republican side as #KBJ makes history is making me strangely giddy, honestly. May their Dixiecrat anger burn deep and long. History has defied their precious founders, who never, ever intended this day to be. We will revel in our joy!

1/ THREAD: Body Language Analysis No. 4640: Tom Cotton's overt and inflammatory Nazi-othering of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson
#BodyLanguage #BodyLanguageExpert #TomCotton
#SCOTUS #KetanjiBrownJackson
2/ Earlier today, Senator Tom Cotton Nazi-Othered propagandized soon-to-be Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
3/ From strict verbal or written interpretation, Cotton's statement was not only factually inaccurate, but profoundly inflammatory and extremely disparaging. It was overt propaganda.

Week 89 below.
90.02/ Was not a fan of "Is it COVID or is it allergies or is it a cold" season the first two times and I can honestly say the third time is definitely not the charm.
90.03/ This is a really great thread, esp. re: translating vernacular thoughts into corporate-speak.

Kinda late but since Kentaji Brown Jackson is soon to be confirmed to the supreme I decided to make a comprehensive rundown thread of all the votes on supreme court nominees in 21st century! #ElectionTwitter #SCOTUS #SupremeCourt #KetanjiBrownJackson
Under Bush, four different supreme court nominations occurred. Although he withdrew two. The first was John Roberts was originally nominated to replace Sandra Day O’Connor but withdrew him when the chief justice, William Rehnquist died and instead nominated him for chief justice.
Nominated again on Sep. 6, 2005, he was a former member of Reagan’s Attorney General’s office and DC circuit judge, Roberts managed to garner broad, bipartisan support and was the last nominee to receive majority support from the party whose president didn’t nominate them.

Next up: #KetanjiBrownJackson made history in February as the first Black woman nominated to #SCOTUS. Legal experts @JNelsonLDF and @FGossGraves join criminal justice reporter @ChrisCarrega to discuss the power of Jackson's nomination. #CapitalBLive
@JNelsonLDF @FGossGraves @ChrisCarrega .@JNelsonLDF starts off by reminding us that a new justice will influence Supreme Court decisions on voting rights, reproductive rights, and more. "#SCOTUS will have a direct impact on how we continue to live in this country and whether we can thrive." #CapitalBLive
@ChrisCarrega .@FGossGraves values the visibility she and her peers have right now. "It's been important for the country to be introduced to not just Judge Jackson, but a number of Black women attorneys who are extraordinarily qualified and accomplished in all manner of ways." #CapitalBLive

We discussed this on Friday on @thereidout. Not only did @HawleyMO praise a light sentence (probation) for a cop who strangled his girlfriend with a shirt and orally raped her, he also formed a sex trafficking task force that members called just for show.
And it should be mentioned that @HawleyMO’s “soft on sex crime” record came when he was the top law enforcement official in Missouri as that state’s attorney general, and an apparent publicity hound.…
Beyond that, Hawley has repeatedly voted to confirm white male nominees to the federal bench who had sentencing records in similar cases that were identical to #KetanjiBrownJackson’s record. The only other difference? Trump nominated them.…

The entire #KetanjiBrownJacksonHearing has been performance art at a time when #SCOTUS public approval ratings are at an all time low. (SCOTUS public approval is lower than after Bush v Gore 😬). It's bread an circuses to give the court a patina of legitimacy.
The process is broken, Gorsuch, Barrett and Kavanagh arguably should not be on the bench. They are only there through the machinations of a GOP Senate leadership that was obsessed with 1) Undermining Obama 2) Ensuring Trump remained in office should his 2020 lawsuits get that far
Even the most casual American voters saw the GOP senate steal a seat from Obama. Millions watched as Kavanagh screamed and pouted to avoid answering questions about his finances, alleged sexual assaults (there were more than 1) and writings on torture during the Bush years

The resilience you all expect of Black women is outdated. And once we celebrate her confirmation, I hope we also all think about how we can support Black Women that want to lead without trauma involved. That’s true #JusticeForAll

#ConfirmJackson #ConfirmKBJ #SCOTUS
“She handled herself gracefully despite the verbal attacks.” “ She maintained her composure despite the disrespect.” Why are we celebrating this? Why are we not interrogating the fact that such abuse is allowed to happen in this process in the 1st place?
I dream of a future where a woman like #KetanjiBrownJackson can have a hearing without abuse. My dream is for Black women to be able to express anger and/or sadness without judgement. I choose to fight for representation, yes, but also for the joy we deserve.

.@LindseyGrahamSC is an embarrassment to the United States Senate. His performative vitriol and hostility to Judge Jackson whom he has repeatedly voted to elevate to the federal bench; and who he's now treating like a Black shopper he's following around the store, is repugnant.
Lindsey thinks the purpose of this hearing is to personally get revenge for Amy Barrett and accused teen rapist Brett Kavanaugh-and to vent his spleen about his SC candidate not being the nominee. Well @LindseyGrahamSC we already knew who you were. Thanks for confirming our view.
Lindsey and the other Confederates @SenTomCotton & @HawleyMO are trying to put a stain on #KetanjiBrownJackson that matches the stain on Clarence (who was accused of pushing porn on unwilling women) & Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexually violating high school and college women.

Those of you who use "woke" as an insult have great company
As #KetanjiBrownJackson hearings continue, please educate yourself on how using "woke" as an insult is you being complicit in the US right wing racist gaslighting.

I get especially pissed off at fellow Indians who throw it around as an insult, buying into that.

Read a bit!
Using "woke" as an insult is just one step removed from vilifying "Critical Race Theory".

Both are tactics from the Rump Confederacy trying to shut up black America as it talks about how their problems go beyond economic inequality, and are about racial inequality.

While @TomCottonAR is badgering Judge #KetanjiBrownJackson re rape and other crime, and @HawleyMO @tedcruz @LindseyGrahamSC etc attacked her about child pornography, a reminder that the girls Brett Kavanaugh was accused of sexually violating were high school and college students.
I don't recall any of their outrage about that. Also: speaking of crime, as @ElieNYC has asked: do they think people convicted of committing violent insurrection against the United States should be sentenced to more time, or less than they have been by present federal judges?
Here are the allegations that we know of, against Republicans' favorite justice post-Scalia: Brett Kavanaugh...…

Oh joy. @tedcruz is now doing his distinctive brand of whingey white conservative male performance art; trying to goad #KetanjiBrownJackson into denouncing Critical Race Theory and the #1619Project, neither of which Cruz is smart enough to understand.
The bottom line for the right is that to be qualified for a SCOTUS seat, or really any position in “their” America, Black people must ritualistically disown and denounce Black people, Black thought, Black culture, Black history and any and all racial and historical consciousness.
They must vow to only and always defend white Christian male sovereignty over America, as enumerated in the original constitution. No white candidate for any office is required to similarly denounce white supremacy, white Christian nationalism, or even insurrection. We see y’all.
