🔥 CBDC design research is red-hot at the moment, and the 4 institutions just named have been intertwined in technical collaborations for years.
🧵 This thread outlines the many overlaps between these entities, beginning with connections between @Quant_Network & @MIT ⬇️
In September 2020, @Quant_Network and @MIT started work with the @IETF to design ODAP (Open Digital Asset Protocol).
🌐 ODAP aims to be the rails for the Internet of Value – an open protocol that allows digital assets to flow freely from one network to another.
In February 2021, Quant and MIT co-hosted “ODAP Industry Day for Financial Services.”
💻 This public event discussed the need for an interoperability protocol that bridges the gap between traditional finance and the emerging digital asset space.
In November 2021, Quant and MIT co-authored an important white paper titled “Implementing A CBDC.”
✅ The paper concluded that Quant’s Multi-Ledger Token (MLT) technology meets the challenges and requirements in designing a central bank digital currency.
🏦 As mentioned earlier, and similar to Canada, the @BankofEngland announced a 12-month collaborative research project with @MIT “to explore potential technical challenges, trade-offs, opportunities and risks involved in designing a CBDC system.”
Quant CEO @GVerdian worked at the BoE, along with other high-level roles in U.K. finance:
🔥 Bank of England: Cybersecurity and Resilience committee
🔥 Her Majesty's Treasury: Chief Security Officer and Deputy Chief Technology Officer
🔥 U.K. Ministry of Justice: Security Lead
The Head of Future Technology at the @BankofEngland, Will Lovell, even identified Quant by name on a large financial industry call:
To summarize — MIT, BoE, BoC, and Quant have many links:
✅ Quant + MIT (Co-authors CBDC paper, Co-founders ODAP)
✅ MIT + Bank of Canada & Bank of England (CBDC research partners)
✅ Quant + BoE (DPF, Finance calls, Gilbert's resume)
✅ Quant + BoC via SIA (Partnerships)
Looking ahead, Quant, MIT, and the Bank of Canada will all be speaking on the “CBDC Leaders panel” (along with the CEO of VISA Europe) at @FTLive’s Digital Asset Summit next month.
💵 Bonus! MIT has been working alongside the @BostonFed to create the Digital USD.
✔️ Considering MIT’s relationship with Quant (as outlined in this thread), along with @GVerdian’s 2 years working at the Fed, it’s reasonable to assume $QNT is involved in this project as well.
💻 Welcome to ‘Interoperability Out Loud,’ a Twitter mini-series where big voices in crypto discuss the need for blockchain interoperability.
🔥 If there's one thing the experts agree on, it's that interoperability is needed for Web3 to reach its full potential. ⬇️
🧵 The following thread features spoken thoughts from 7 powerful crypto figures, followed by my personal analysis.
The goal is to display the sheer magnitude of interoperability as a problem/solution, and to highlight the opportunity available to winning platforms.💰
1. Charles Hoskinson
@IOHK_Charles is the founder of @Cardano & co-founder of @ethereum. His life’s work has been building cryptographic tools for mainstream adoption.
A bit of a lightning rod, Charles is clearly one of the brightest minds in crypto. ⬇️
