Divers are amongst the most elite of all sailors and soldiers. A tough selection process and tougher day to day environment? Which are the different diving units in India?

[01] Unsurprisingly the Indian Navy has the largest, most experienced and well equipped diving cadre in the country. Navy divers are also the talent pool for MARCOS special forces.

Navy divers, and in fact divers across all services are graduates of the elite Diving School at Kochi.
Indian Navy maintains Command Clearance Diving Teams (CCDT) in all commands. Aside from clearance diving divers also perform EOD and Mine Clearance.
[02] #IndianCoastGuard too has divers - primarily for clearance diving
[03] #IndianArmy divers - found in the special forces for sabotage and counter terrorism.
[04] National Security Guard (NSG) - Combat Diving Team

[05] CAPFs - CISF, BSF and especially NDRF have recently has started sending batches of trainees to Diving School.

Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard are the top naval forces of the country. But there are other smaller marine/coastal security forces guarding our waters. Lets look at some of them.

1. Border Security Force (BSF) Water Wing.

BSF operates the 3rd largest 'navy' of India on both Western and Eastern borders. At coastal areas as well as riverine areas such as Punjab.

The Floating BOPs act as motherships for smaller motorboats.

2. Customs Preventive (Marine)

Customs is a central govt organisation and operates a large fleet of patrol vessels and motorboats. Interestingly, customs preventive officers wear a white uniform patterned on the Navy.

#OpSwiftRetort air strikes - plausible scenarios:

1. PAF intended to strike Indian targets with aim to cause damage but missed due to inherent system limitation, poor execution or timely counter by IAF

2. Action was only to signal capability (stated reason)

3. Both

Analysis is complicated due to:

1. High disinformation level by Pak military establishment. Not just in present scenario but historically as well.

2. No official comment by #IndianArmy or #IndianAirForce on the efficacy of the strikes.

3. No anecdotes from history

@joe_sameer goes with scenario #1 basis high variation in targeting error. But then 2 different types of weapons and platforms were employed and both are relatively unknown as far as efficacy is concerned. Neither is PAF known for air strikes.
