Obviously I’m a massive #IC fan. The technology is amazing. It is the only blockchain thatmakes web3 a reality and allows non-speculative genuinely useful applications to be built (e.g.dfinity.org/showcase) but it isn’t without flaws so that is what this thread is about.
1. Token launch was fluffed. Initial pump and then crash was disastrous for confidence as was locking in pre-genesis investors against their will. It would have been far better to let the market clear, distribution to improve and price to find its correct level.
2. Dominic is great but he needs to stop picking fights and saying weird stuff on twitter. This is net negative for the IC’s reputation Get an alt for trolling, let someone professional manage your account and concentrate on the R&D stuff.
3. We need supply certainty.
* Clear official information about issuance and burn, with projections and modelling. (When does it become deflationary)
* Stop undermining credibility with proposals that alter NNS rewards dynamics or otherwise mess with economics.
4. Node onboarding governance process is too centralised still. (This is in roadmap to fix though)
5. Protocol does not automatically detect and punish malicious nodes (This was identified in ToB audit and hopefully should be fixed)
6. It isn’t clear that there is shared security between subnets and subnets seem potentially vulnerable to node operator collusion.(Node shuffling has been proposed there may be other approaches)
7. Boundary nodes are insufficiently decentralised and therefore a censorship risk. (This is in roadmap to fix though)
8. Governance culture is too casual and not formal or serious enough.
9. There is a fundamental contradiction between wish to be law abiding, to avoid evil effects, having a governance process and the value of decentralisation being immutability and censorship resistance that needs to be resolved somehow.
10. Operations and storage pricing is not really tuned and network is yet to be tested with fire against malicious nodes, applications and DoS.
11. More generally culture isn’t adversarial aware enough yet and application devs and users need to become more guarded and defensive against hacks and scams at a cultural level.
12. Marketing and community growth is still in early phases. We have not yet reached any kind of escape velocity in terms of community growth.
13. Dfinity foundation is still very dominant in all areas there needs to be a plan to move beyond this and actually decentralise in terms of power as well as just the network.
14. Price oracle for cycle pricing is centralised with a ratifying NNS vote.
15. Some infrastructure regarding handling payments is still being built out. Similarly we still don't have bitmap or native file storage and so on.
That is most of my main issues - I think they mostly stem from the team being great but not really philosophically "blockchain people" (immutability, censorship resistance, decentralisation, assume everyone is malicious, minimise governance, money/SoV...)
On the plus side most of them are on the roadmap to be addressed or can otherwise be easily addressed so I'm still pretty happy with the way things are going. The capabilities and potential product market fit are amazing
That is Dfinity has built a system that is better for web hosting and performant blockchain apps than any other chain or centralized cloud. But we need to harden and decentralise.
What would you add?
What sucks about the #IC in your opinion?

Expected order… 1. NFTs 2. Cross chain DEXs and DeFi 3. Games 4. Start of a sustainable Creator culture economy 5. De(Social, productivity & media) 6. Real sophisticated DAOs 7. Pan Enterprise & IoT
1. NFTs are the obvious first win. Already loads of players and actually being able to host content is huge. Need to get the whale players onboard though.
2. BTC integration and chainkey more generally is the trigger for the next wave. Cross chain non custodial DEXs will start to really eat into CeX and single chain DeX market.
