"Our magic says that we know we can do this better."
- Oklahoma's @GovConnie on why it's past time for a Black woman to hold a state's highest office. #CapitalBLive
.@DeidreDeJear recalls filing to be on the gubernatorial ballot with a portrait of activist Mary Church Terrell looking at her. "She could not have done that, but the work that she did has created a space for women like me to be running in this office." #CapitalBLive
.@GovConnie is perhaps best known for writing Oklahoma’s medical cannabis legislation, which passed in 2018. She's already seen the benefits for small business owners and those with chronic illnesses.
Johnson views the cannabis law as a way toward less incarceration and more public funding: "Here in Oklahoma, [hemp] grows between the cracks of the concrete. We are uniquely geographically, climatologically situated that it grows here naturally."

Like many states since the repeal of the Voting Rights Act and the 2020 elections, Iowa has restricted voting rights. @DeidreDeJear says rolling back those restrictions and improving access to the ballot is at the top of her priority list once she's in office. #CapitalBLive
"I'm of the mindset that we have to create accessible voting laws for everybody. Early voting should be a no-brainer…Automatic voter registration increases people's opportunity to access the ballot box. We should not be restricting people's access."
