HYPOTHESIS: An explanation for the declining efficacy of Rapid Antigen Tests in diagnosing COVID.
Most RATs detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein as it is the most abundant coronavirus protein. /2
The nucleocapsid protein is involves in RNA packing within the virion; it is an internal protein and so is unaffected by antibody responses against it. In contrast, the COVID spike protein is used by the virus to bind to ACE2 on target host cells to gain cellular entry. /3
The spike protein is therefore on the external membrane of COVID virus particles, and has been targeted by vaccination to develop antibodies to competitively inhibit COVID binding to ACE2. /4

Orwellian Newspeak: "Mikael Tofvesson, Head of the [Swedish] Information Protection Unit ... said that truth can be disinformation if it affects public trust in the authorities."
Why the COVID death rate in Sweden was 10x that in Norway:
nature.com/articles/s4159…
"Although several of the people involved publicly made statements that face masks were not needed, or even 'dangerous' or contra-productive — they later claimed they had always been supportive of their use."
"Many elderly people were administered morphine instead of oxygen despite available supplies, effectively ending their lives."

People who were not working were less likely to test positive than those who were employed and working . /2

People who were affected “a lot” by a disability were less likely to test positive than those who were not impacted by a disability. /3
People who work in a care or nursing homes were more likely to test positive than those who did not.
Those living in larger households in Northern Ireland and Scotland were more likely to test positive, but this was not the case in many other parts of the UK.

Australia PM speech 'clear warning' on China bbc.com/news/live/worl… via @BBCNews
/2
Most of what is reported here is misleading at best. It is widely accepted that to carry influence with China, one must speak softly and cary a big stick. Morrison is a loudmouthed boar and has no sticks at all. /3
The claim about Morrison vetoing deals with China fails to recognise that China remains Australia's most important trading partner, and that the deals vetoed were signed by State branches of the Labor Party, the Party that opposes Morrison at a Federal level. /4

When I was a child, the Bureau of Meteorology @BOM_au, referred to as “BOM,” was so frustrated at the variability of Melbourne’s weather that they complained bitterly that the city had “three seasons in every day.” /2
Things have changed, of course, with satellites, aquatic and airborne weather stations, and advanced AI algorithms that allow them to predict the weather with a 95% accuracy. /3
Except in Melbourne. /4

@joannatdavis @ProfPCDoherty Yes, protein vaccines are a genuine option. The Novavax vaccine uses the same approach. It is not "back to basics". The original vaccines were pathogens that had replicated or stored in an unusual environment (a different animal or in culture) until no longer pathogenic. /2
@joannatdavis @ProfPCDoherty Obviously if using a protein approach instead of RNA was all that was necessary to make a vaccine "patent free" then Novavax has already done it. The manufacture of a vaccine involves lots of technologies, all of which are patentable. /3
@joannatdavis @ProfPCDoherty The article's claim that using a slightly more established vaccine technology means their is no patent issues is like claiming you can copy any petrol powered car because it is using a fuel older than that Tessla is using. /4
