Good morning from just outside Court 5J where day 3 of Depp v Heard is about to get underway. I’m going to spend a bit of time in court this morning before the live tweets begin. In the meantime enjoy the view of the sunrise outside Fairfax County Court this morning….

… working on the door. And AH is in front of me and there’s the security guy and we are two feet away from each other. She says don’t worry about your apartment and she introduces me to his security he gave me his card which I lost and I’m taking this in and I say what happened?

So Josh gives me the high sign, like, follow me so I go with him…

… don’t see anything. So I make a joke. I say I don’t see anything but maybe the beauty is outshining anything so I kissed her on the face THAT side of the face

Lunchtime Reflections follow….

1) My live-tweets this time round are far more accurate than in 2020 when I couldn’t scroll back the live feed by 5s.

2) The more time I spend in court, the longer I have to play catch up which makes this something of an endurance test.

Okay we’re back with Brandon Patterson who is the building manager at the Eastern Colombia building where JD and AH and the gang lived in the 20-teens.

The most exciting thing about this afternoon’s proceedings so far has been witnessing the giant flat screen TV which...

… on the instruction of the judge, appeared out her bench, making her briefly look like she was on the bridge of a teak-panelled Starship Enterprise. The screen, inside it’s wooden cabinet, rose majestically (and noisily) out of its slot in the cabinet between the judge...

… and the witness box, and having reached its full height, span 90 degrees on its central axis to face the court.

On this and the six other large screens around the court Brandon Patterson’s face was cast and we were underway...

… BP is the first of this case’s video depositions. Which means his interview has been pre-recorded, chopped up and argued over by both parties and finally agreed, with the approval of the judge to be shown to the jury.

So we are all now watching proceedings on TV, both inside, outside the court and at home.
