"DELIST, OR CRY LATER U PAPERHANDED BITCHESSS!!🀬"

The (Sometimes Ugly) Truth About "Community" In The #NFTCommunity - a πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡
1/ A lot of projects in this space claim to be "Community Driven" - they use community as a buzzword because everyone says you need it for a project to succeed.

But after degen'ing into many projects over the past year, it's clear many projects don't walk the walk when
2/ it comes to actually building the kind of community that can take a project from mint, to Valhalla.

That's why so many projects will see an initial spike in volume and floor price, then a slow bleed-out once the volume dries up.
3/ This puts immense pressure on the team to deliver something that will re-kindle interest and get new eyeballs on the project.

Think about it - would you rather have a team be heads-down building out their vision? Or worrying about how to stop a death-spiral? πŸ€”
4/ Human attention spans are short.

In the NFT space, they're even shorter.

If teams don't work hard to create a rock-solid foundation and community culture right from day 1, they are asking for trouble at the first sign of adversity.
5/ Because when you build a real community - (people who connect with each other on a level way beyond price action) right from day 1 -

the short-term ups and downs begin to matter less and less.
6/ If you're in a "community" that consists of a bunch of randoms in discord yelling things like

"DELIST, OR CRY LATER U PAPERHANDED BITCHESSS" (actual quote from discord)

...you don't have a community - you have a pump group.
7/ And the moment even the slightest pullback in floor price happens, your pump group quickly devolves into an...

all-out shitshow πŸ’© πŸ“Ί

#devsdosomething
8/ Don't get me wrong - I love a good discord frenzy on a big price-run up, yelling "LFGGGG". πŸ“ˆ

It's a rush. It's fun.

But it's only temporary...because as we know, nothing is #uponly all the time.
9/ So how do you know if you're in a strong community that is gmi long term?

Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
10/ Q1: When you visit their discord - are they talking about the price, or the traits? πŸ€”

Trait talk is mega bullish. When people are talking about the art, it signals genuine interest in a collection. The art MUST resonate with holders beyond just speculation of value increase
11/ As of now, the jpegs are the core of a project.

If people are only interested in floor numba go up, and have no actual interest in the collection and its traits, you have a BIG problem.

12/ In communities like @quirkiesnft and @BoredApeYC, sub-communities have even formed around certain traits.

These sub-groups are creating art, music, merch, and even DAOs that revolve around the pieces in the collection that have certain traits.

13/ Q2. Are They Talking About Other Things?

Much of the time, conversation will be project related - but you can tell the real communities by how much they are just shooting the shit.

Tight communities are genuinely interested in each other's lives outside of the project.
14/ Q3. Are They Shaming Sellers? πŸ‘Ž

Seller shaming is the ultimate NGMI behavior, and imo the most toxic aspect of project discords.

I HATE the term "paperhands". It's cringey, and implies that selling is wrong, or bad.

15/ If you join a project's discord, and see people posting screenshots of people selling at a loss, trying to tell people what to list at, or shaming sellers in any way (surprisingly this can even include mods)...

There's a REALLY good chance that project is NGMI long-term.
16/ And if you, yourself are doing this, just know - you are hurting your own bags (and, being an asshole)

Everyone has their own reasons for selling. Their own situations. 0.2 eth is a lot of money to some people. It's not our job to tell others how to play their hand. πŸƒ
17/ If people are under-cutting? Let them!

They are giving others a chance to get into the project.

Early on in the #Quirkies community, we decided to change the term "paper hands" to "volume boosters" and it has stuck ever since.

Sellers will sell. Really - it's ok!
18/ Q4. Is The Community Creating? πŸŽ¨πŸŽΆπŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ

For example - how much fan art are members the community creating?

From day 1, after reveal, the artists in the #quirkies community started making πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯
20/ ...to @0xfarah's epic Ape/Quikie mash-ups for ape holders...
21/ ...to @BritByBit's amazing flat quirks...
22/ ...to @aaronquester with the killer Twitter banners and promo art...
23/ ...to @Kentasi2's incredible creations
24/ @Kentasi2 is even creating a calendar using community members who volunteered their #Quirkies to be used in it
25/ Along with so many others @BoatesNotes, @faithsilva, and Im forgetting about 50 more.

The amount of #Quirkies fan-art coming out of Quirksville each week is a sight to behold.
26/ And not just visual art - music too. 🎢

Quirksville is home to some amazing music artists like @Eman8, @igot5s, @casanova_queenn, @zackgray, @itsnovul and more.

These talented quirks have blessed Quirksville with music to always keep the vibe strong: soundcloud.com/brandynmusic/s…
27/ Here is the newest track, which is the first collab with multiple #Quirkies and it is πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

28/ And then the great @Kentasi2 followed it up with some fire art to go along with it

29/ Other community members are creating merch like @TitoNewfound, and @TheReal_FFDOOM, to help us rep Quirksville while the official drops are being created.
31/ Getting people interested in something to the point where they are freely offering up their time, attention, skills, and insights to push a project forward, is an example of REAL community.

A bunch of people bitching about floor price, yelling "DELITHHH" in discord, is not.
32/ Q5. Does The Community Have Inside Jokes? 😹

I can say the words: "RIP .44 πŸͺ¦" or "squidspiracy" or "tinfoil" to almost anyone in #quirkies and get a laugh.

Inside jokes are the mark of a deeper-than-surface level of friendship. Couples who have lots of them, have been
33/ scientifically proven to stay together longer. I believe this to be true for communities too.

They can't be manufactured either. They are organic, and happen over the course of people engaging with each other through different situations.
34/ Q6. Does The Community Hang Out Via Multiple Mediums?

Discord only is not enough. Is your community engaging in different ways?

I'm in the @qurikiesnft Discord, on Twitter, in group chats, text convos, and most importantly - our bread & butter...
35/ Twitter spaces!

The first night of the #Quirkies reveal, one of the community members fired up a spaces, and since that day it has been 'game-on'

There is something about interacting via voice, that makes connections so much deeper & more meaningful.
36/ Many communities have closed voice chats in discord, which is fine sometimes, but doesn't do anything to get outside eyes on the project.

Twitter's algo is one of the most powerful (and free) marketing tools, because when someone is in a space, all of their followers see it
37/ Once we realized this, some of our community members put together a daily schedule of them - both to connect with each other regularly, and to add value to the #nftcommunity as a whole.

Note: These are all run by the community - not the team.
38/ Doing things like this allows the community to take some of the pressure off of the team, by letting them focus on buidling the #Quirkies brand.

And as busy as they are, @SyntribosStable and @Finch_O_N_E frequently drop in and hang out with the gang.

39/ Q7. What Is The Community's Conviction Level?

Are they doing things like this? (Shout to @TheReal_FFDOOM for showing what πŸ’ŽπŸ™Œ really look like)

They don't have to be getting inked, but are your community members doing things to display conviction?

40/ Q8. How Was The Initial Welcome?

Did it feel like this? Was it so special, you had to tweet about it?

41/ When someone joins an #NFTCommunity, there is a significant amount of anxiety involved. After all, it costs real money to get in. Sometimes a LOT of it.

So it shocks me that more attention isn't spent on welcoming people, and helping them get started
42/ The avg amount of new followers any new member of #quirkies gets is probably 100+ in the first 24 hours.

If your community isn't taking the time to welcome new members and make them feel special, why would they stay?

43/ I had a dev friend help me put together welcometoquirksville.com

Just as a simple onboarding sequence that gives new and potential members a quick overview of Quirksville.

It took us only 2 days to hack together, and the feedback so far has been incredibly positive.
44/ I haven't seen many other projects doing things like this. It is so simple, and can be so helpful to mitigate a new or potential member's anxiety when joining a project.

Not to mention indoctrina... ahem... getting them up to speed.
45/ Q9. Is The Community Working Together To Solve Problems?

The #Quirkies team has mastered the art of anticipation, and the community is going crazy trying to solve the many mysteries of Quirksville.

46/ The latest leak had about 200 of us on a Twitter spaces all zoomed in 10x trying to decipher the hidden clues to the upcoming companion drop, and teasing the new merch.

47/ Group problem solving can do wonders for bringing a community closer together.

Plus, it's just plain fun.

And speaking of "fun" --
48/ Q10. Do You Wake Up Looking Forward To Seeing What Happens Next?

Syn said it best - Quirksville really is addictive, in the most delightful of ways. Always stuff going on in the community, and we're always supporting and helping each other grow. 🌱

49/ These are just a few of the questions you can ask yourself about a project, to see if their idea of community is real, or just a marketing buzz-word

NOTE: I use #Quirkies for these examples because I am a member of the community, and they have shown me the real definition of
50/ what it truly means.

There are many other great communities in this space, and this list is far from exhaustive on what it takes to build a strong community.

It's just what I know πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

How a super smooth brain's journey down the @terra_money rabbit hole πŸ‡ convinced me this ecosystem is the real "Future of France" πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡
1/ I was made aware of @terra_money back in Feb, but never started really exploring it until about a month and a half ago. And what I've seen so far, has completely blown my mind 🀯
2/ The main thing that has me so boolish about this ecosystem is that the developers clearly understand that in order to gain mass adoption, you CAN NOT buidl things just β€œfor crypto users”.

That was v 1.0 (bitcoin) and v 2.0 (ethereum).
