THREAD: What’s Happening in Jerusalem Right Now?

Here's what has happened so far. 👇👇👇
Israeli police invaded Al Aqsa Mosque—one of the holiest sites in the world for Muslims—attacking Palestinians as they gathered to pray on Friday morning during the holy month of Ramadan.
Israeli police fired tear gas, stun grenades, and rubber-coated steel bullets at Palestinians praying inside the mosque, in addition to journalists, medics, elders, and children outside, injuring at least 158 Palestinians.
Israel's assault on Al-Aqsa was a violent attack by a heavily-armed occupying power, Israel, against the civilian population it oppresses daily, the Palestinians, as they were gathered to pray during their holiest month of the year.

It's not a “clash” nor a “religious dispute.”
Israel’s invasion of Al-Aqsa was also an assault on Palestinian identity and culture.

During the attack, Israeli police damaged the historic structure of the holy mosque, breaking stained glass windows and crumbling walls that have stood for centuries.
An almost identical attack on the mosque by Israeli police during Ramadan last year led to Israel’s massacre in Gaza last May, during which the Israeli military killed over 260 Palestinians, more than 65 of whom were children.
Israel’s invasion of Al-Aqsa follows an escalation of violence by the Israeli military against Palestinians during Ramadan, killing 15 Palestinians since the beginning of April alone.
Now, from Gaza to Jerusalem, Palestinians are bracing for more violent attacks from Israeli military and police while still recovering from those of the last few days, weeks, and years.

What exactly is happening in Jenin? ⤵️⤵️

After the Israeli military began invading Jenin this weekend, Palestinians in the occupied city are once again under attack.
Since Saturday, Israeli soldiers invading Jenin have:
•Killed a Palestinian and injured dozens
•Set up snipers throughout the city
•Restricted who can leave and enter
•Opened fire on a refugee camp
•Announced plans to destroy homes belonging to Palestinian families
While alarming, violent Israeli attacks in Jenin are not unusual.

Israel has a history of using collective punishment against Palestinians living in the occupied Palestinian city.

Over the weekend, Israel escalated its violence against Palestinians, killing four Palestinians in under 24 hours as it carried out violent attacks across occupied Palestine.
Israeli soldiers shot 16-year-old Mohammad Hussein Mohammad Qassim in the abdomen as they invaded the occupied Palestinian city of Jenin.

"They just wanted to kill anything Palestinian," Zakarneh's father said at his funeral. Image
As Ghada Ibrahim Sabatien, the 47-year-old mother of 6 who was blind in one eye, walked through her town’s entrance, Israeli soldiers shot her in the leg & prevented medics from reaching her, killing her.

A recent widow, she leaves behind 6 children now without a single parent.

THREAD: It's Ramadan. Palestinians should be able to celebrate and spend time with family in safety, but instead, Palestinians live in constant fear of Israel's brutal daily violence.
6 children lost their mother today. Israeli soldiers shot and killed the woman, who is visually impaired, as she walked in her hometown near Bethlehem.

Israeli soldiers shot and killed another Palestinian woman near Hebron. Why are Israeli soldiers invading and occupying Palestinian land in the first place?

Israel's oppression and colonialism is the root of all violence.

Ahmed Manasra has been in Israeli custody since 2015, when he was just 13 years old. For the last seven years, he’s been beaten, tortured, and interrogated by Israeli police. Palestinians are calling for his release.
In 2015, Israel accused Ahmed and his cousin, two children living under the daily violence of Israel’s military occupation, of attacking Israeli settlers illegally occupying their hometown of Jerusalem.
Israeli police shot and killed Ahmed’s cousin, 15-year-old Hassan Manasra, while Ahmed was hit by an Israeli vehicle and left bleeding from his head in the street while Israeli settlers surrounded him cursing and shouting, “Die! Die!”

THREAD: This week marks the 20th commemoration of Israel’s brutal invasion of the #Jenin refugee camp & its 39-day military siege of Bethlehem, including shelling the Church of Nativity while 200 #Palestinians were trapped inside.
On April 3, 2002, the Israeli military began its violent invasion of the Jenin refugee camp. Killing dozens of #Palestinian women, children, & the elderly. Human rights groups document that Israel purposefully targeted Palestinian civilians & vital infrastructure.
Amounting to war crimes, during Israel’s 2002 invasion of Jenin, horrific reports emerged that the Israeli military deliberately targeted Palestinian civilians, including the elderly, those with disabilities, and even Palestinians trying to seek shelter and safety.

19-month-old Palestinian baby Fatma Al-Masri died after Israel blocked her permit to leave Gaza to receive life-saving care.
Fatma was born in Gaza with a heart defect called VSD. With proper care, VSD patients usually have a normal life expectancy.
But Fatma's life was cut short by Israeli officials who prevented her from leaving Gaza, where Israel's suffocating blockade means hospitals do not have the means to give proper care to patients like Fatma.
