There was chaos as stone pelting started when the procession was moving peacefully. Delhi Police personnel tried to control the situation. A policeman was shot at. Force deployment was increased after this incident. Jahangirpuri has been cordoned off & area is now peaceful.
Senior officials of @DelhiPolice have reached the area. MHA has been briefed about the incident, said an officer. An investigation has been launched & culprits will be brought to justice, the official added. #HanumanJayanthi
The police official who was shot at has been identified as a Sub Inspector. He is being treated in a hospital. More details awaited.
Injuries have been reported among people also. They all have been shifted to nearby hospitals, though exact number of people injured during the stone pelting is yet to be ascertained. It was a pre-planned attack. C Block in Jahangirpuri is a troublesome area with a past history.
Two @DelhiPolice personnel have been injured, including the SI. Delhi Police HQ has asked all the 14 districts to be on alert mode. Deployment of forces is being augmented with 2 Cos of RAF has been deployed in Jahangirpuri. More reinforcements are on the way.
Home Minister @AmitShah spoke to @CPDelhi & took stock of the situation. Spl CP L&O North Division @Dependra_Pathak is on the spot & monitoring the situation. DCPs of other districts too have been put on high alert. Affected area is being sanitised, Senior officials said.
Block C of Jahangirpuri is infested with illegally living Bangladeshis & Rohingyas. Delhi Police needs to weed out these intruders. They have created troubles in the past too. It’s time to free this area. There were inflammatory religious chants before stone pelting started.
Tension was building up in C Block Jahangirpuri. It exploded in the evening as a frenzied sword wielding mob started stone pelting. What remains to be addressed is why every religious procession needs permission of a particular community?

Entire area has been sealed by @DelhiPolice . Drones are flying to get footages of roof tops & also detect movements in narrow lanes & bylanes of #jahangirpuri. Police is also sifting through maize of cellphone numbers that were active in the area during stone pelting.
Patrol cars with armed police personnel are moving in the affected areas of Delhi's Jahangirpuri area.
