As one of the low-income countries in the world, how many hours individuals are working both in private & public sectors? "8"?
How can we alleviate poverty by just working "8"hours?

Our annual gross domestic product is ~$100B. That is less than half of the world richest individual's net worth. We're 115M people and have a gross per capita income of <$900. Sad!
Do you think people in developed & emerging countries became richer by working <8 hours?

Another fact #Ethiopia’s Human Development Index is at a low 0.38 which means that a child born in Ethiopia today will be 38 percent as productive when s/he grows up as s/he could be if s/he enjoyed complete education & full health. This is lower than the average for SSAR. WB

How on earth then we expect to increase our productivity by working less than 8 effective hours in a day and 5 days a week? Shouldn't we challenge ourselves to go against the norm and increase our efforts to work 12, 14, 16 hours a day?
Ask yourself how productive you are.

I know you are already thinking there is no enough jobs to take even if you wanted to work more than 8 hours. YES there is no enough jobs unless you created one.

Here is the bare minimum what the people and the government should try to do in order to create #24/7Economy and increase production, productivity and income for everyone.
1. Mindset shift

#Mindset shift- we have to collectively believe that our current work habit is the main cause of poverty in our country. We've to change our working habits to work day & night in all sectors of the economy (as people in hospitality, factories, law enforcement etc do)

If you have a full time white collar day job, take a second job (why not blue collar) or start your own business in the evening.

If you are a university student take ANY part-time job 4/5 hours a day.

If you're a business owner try to make your business a 24/7 business.

#Incentive- gov't must change policies and labor regs to make Public service hours longer than 8 hrs. Why not key public services (vital services, kebele, woreda, SC Fed agencies) operate from 7am-10pm? This creates incentive for individuals & businesses to get timely services

In addition to changing working hours, invest in digital service provisions. Why people have to spend productive time and money to get simple services from gov offices that they can be provided online otherwise.
Pay public servants well and make government services efficient.

#Action-one of our main problems (almost in our DNA) is slow in taking action or lack of collective actions. We've to change this common culture of ours "talk and vanish". We need to have a collective commitment to make things work. Let's learn to take risk to try new things.

It's time for us to roll up our sleeves work hard to the maximum limit so that we can lift majority out of poverty with our sweat & blood. We must not let our children & grandchildren to be born & grow in poverty. Let's use our valuable capital #time 4 a better &bright future

#24/7Economy- economy that functions 24 hours a day and 7 days a week should be part of our home grown economic model.
