Once again in Rurou no Tsuki/ Wandering, we witnessed a "Tori Matsuzaka" we had never seen before. We have been amazed by his performances many times before, but this time he takes us to a new place in cinema. Image
Q: How did you understand the sadness and loneliness of Fumi in the story?

Tori: When I read the original and script, I had an image of Fumi sitting alone in the middle of a large, quiet lake, a place of his own choice. I decided to use it as a starting point to explore.
Tori: However, I am still not sure if my understanding of Fumi was correct. He was such a deep and complex person.

Abe: My elder sister is Okada-kun's fan. She found out about this movie on instagram and called me "Wow, you're doing a movie with Okada!!!" 🤣

Okada: Abe-san told me about this on set and I decided to join the Abe family.
Okada: I was very impressed by Yamato's (Abe) very abstract and artistic last cut. Watching the backs of the crew as they prepared to shoot that, I thought again, "Ah, films are wonderful". I don't know how this film will be received, but I hope those same age as me will see it.

Tori Matsuzaka - MELLOW FLAME

Q: In the book, you wrote about relationship between Maro and Hono (flame). Taking Hono as heat, or desire to create/express, is this a story about the creator and his motivation. Do you yourself experience fluctuations in your desire to express?
Tori: Yes. I think I'm a pretty uneven type of a person, and I think I'm sometimes high like "Okay, let's do it!" , and sometimes, I'm all low. I still wonder why I can't control it.
Q: You've been able to manage them up to now.

Tori: Some people are good at turning the switch on and off, but I have a hard time doing it (lol). I have tried various approaches in the past to see how I can switch it on and off when I enter a project.

I tweeted this last year. Honestly, current interviews for Tori's book depressed me. 😭 Sad mode on*

I read but took the meaning wrong (I didnt get the intended way until he blurted it out.) I'm a pathetic fan now.😭

Need to read more books to understand abstract expression. 🥺
I need food.
To make myself feel good, I'm not completely wrong too... we interpret what we struggle with. I don't struggle my academics that much till now (if we dont count all-nighters 😅) like he does with his work.

Q: How did you do the production the book?

Tori: Everything I talked about, from the trivial to the absurd, was materialized by Shinsaku.
Shinsaku: It was the first time in my life, very interesting. It was a completely new challenge for me. I draw the piece and he did the text. I was even more surprised when I get the feedback from him. We exchanged back-and-forth.
Q: Collaboration vs Solitude

Tori: My work is one that cannot be done without support from various people from production crew. I'm just a person riding on top of a certain amount of arrangements that have already been made. (cont.)

Gen: He's a really nice person...very nice.

Hashimoto: I can feel that feeling even through the screen. He is an amazing actor, isn't he?
Gen Hoshino: Tori Matsuzaka's an amazing actor, but he doesn't make the people around him nervous, not even a millimeter. He's not intimidating, he's just relaxed. When he's acting, he gets very serious but the rest of the time, he's just having fun. It's wonderful.
