Dominic Perrottet, the premier of Australia’s most populous state, NSW, has defied attempts to shut down debate about the effect of transgender “inclusion” on female sport, saying it’s a “matter of fairness & physiology”. #AusPol#Sport#Safety
Perrottet: “The right thing to do is take the concerns of women & girls seriously, not shut them down, and if that means looking at appropriate protections for women-only sport, let’s have the conversation.”
The “progressive” wing of Perrottet’s Liberal Party view the issue as a validation of trans identity & overlook the reality of male-bodied players in female sport. Identity is not the problem, which is why female-bodied trans players would face unfairness & injury in male sport.
But Chris Minns, leader of the centre-left state Labor Party & Perrottet’s rival, says it’s “a complicated issue but acknowledges physiological reality.
Minns: “The simple fact is when young male adolescents go through puberty they have a large amount of a natural chemical called testosterone.
“It’s a powerful natural anabolic steroid & there’s simply not enough preparation, training, dieting or natural skill for female athletes to overcome that competitive advantage.”

Asked *his* view about trans inclusion in female sport, Australia's would-be PM Anthony Albanese deflected by saying "that is covered by the Sex Discrimination Act ... that girls should be able to play sport against girls ..." #AusPol 1/
Back in 2013, when Albanese was a minister in a centre-left Labor govt, the idea of a self-declared "gender identity" at odds with birth sex was introduced to the Sex Discrimination Act. Few noticed at the time, or understood the implications. humanrights.gov.au/our-work/lgbti…
The Sydney seat of Warringah has two female candidates who an observer might expect to have strong opinions about the integrity of female sport. One is Katherine Deves of @SWS_australasia, the other is Zali Steggall, our first female medalist in the Winter Olympics. #AusPol
In 2019, with an orchestrated show of unity, a transgender inclusion guideline was issued by two Australian govt agencies, Sport Australia & the human rights commission, along with a peak sporting body. This document enjoyed uncritical media promotion.
But this was a big shift, pushing sports to reorganise according to someone's inner feeling of "gender identity", not the fact of biological sex -- and with the implied threat of fines for discrimination if sports didn't play ball, not too mention denunciation as "transphobic".
“Dr Anderson, who has helped 100s of teens to transition, says research shows adolescents are [especially] vulnerable to peer pressure. ‘For someone at such an impressionable age, 12, 13, 14, even 15, 16, 17, they are in some cases very immature’.” #AusPolthetimes.co.uk/article/gender…
“And so for some providers to say, ‘We’ll just accept what they say and give them the hormones’, I think is tantamount to malpractice.” Dr Anderson is past president of US Professional Association for Transgender Health.
“I see touted on social media the encouragement to young people to make a gender transition and do it quickly. And that’s where I take exception and say a gender transition is one of the most significant and far-reaching personal changes you can ever make.”
"Maybe we are medicating gay kids, maybe we are medicating kids with autism, maybe we are medicating traumatised children." @BBCNewsnight on the UK Tavistock clinic. Australia is caught up in the same global debate over a potential medical scandal. #AusPol
That debate's not going away, just because Australian media outlets keep uncritically showcasing "life-saving" gender medicine with no mention of its weak evidence base or the emerging group of young adult detransitioners who say it was a harmful mistake. genderclinicnews.substack.com
At some point, Australia's frenzy of language policing - around the subject of medicalised gender change for minors with still developing brains - has to give way to honest & open discussion. Kids in gender clinics deserve better than a woke squad shouting down obvious concerns.
ScoMo & Albo have made a show of defying woke gender lingo. In 2018, Morrison disagreed with the idea of "[trans] gender whisperers" in schools. Last month, Albanese said no, men can't give birth. But whatever they say, gender ideology is entrenched in our law & institutions. 1/
In our politics, gender ideology surfaces as a niche issue or a can-you-believe-it quote. In truth it involves big changes but mostly behind the scenes & of little interest to political journalists. Will this change? In the UK, these are serious mainstream policy debates. #AusPol
Three threads follow. No. 1 explains why Australia's top health bureaucrat was struck silent by "the woman question". No. 2 covers Albanese's identity politics dilemma. No. 3 dispels the myth that Australians voted for "same-sex marriage". #AustraliaVotes2022
Actually, it's irrelevant that Murphy is a doc. In 2013, our parliament inserted the nebulous concept of "gender identity" into the Sex Discrimination Act, destabilising the biological reality of binary sex. Little noticed at the time, this "Queering" of the law has consequences.
