Newcastle have 40 points & are odds on for a top-half finish. Incredible, especially considering they had 11 points at the halfway stage. SJP is suddenly a fortress. Last side to win there... Cambridge. In hindsight, that loss was an unlikely yet pretty pivotal wake up call.
The win away at Leeds, just before the international break, was equally as crucial. And the whole turnaround is even more impressive considering it's been done without Wilson and (for most it) Trippier.
There's real momentum about #NUFC. Was the same for #LCFC after the 'Great Escape'. & we all know what happened the season after! Not saying Newcastle will repeat that fairytale-feat (5000-1 chance 😉). But when considering next window, it's important to remember a core is there.
I can see Newcastle adding 2-3 names, including securing Targett on a permanent deal. Núñez or Toney would be excellent additions. But Trippier, Burn, Targett, Joelinton, Bruno, ASM and Wilson (despite being 30) will all feature heavily if fit. Howe is in an excellent position.
Also think some don't realise the advantage of home support in #NUFC. Fanbase (which is unique) was 'quietened' & pessimistic for so long under Ashley that there wasn't a consistent benefit playing at SJP. Away teams used it to their advantage. That's clearly changing now.

Rudiger to #MUFC remains extremely unlikely. He has already told United he wants guaranteed Champions League football. With Real Madrid and PSG both interested, and #CFC still hopeful of keeping him (big priority for all three suitors), there is no appeal moving to Old Trafford.
Rudiger intends to decide on his future by early May so there is no uncertainty in the off season. When his representatives first spoke to #MUFC, ten Hag wasn't confirmed. His arrival isn't likely to change anything despite his pedigree and the excitement the appointment brings.
Rudiger enjoys playing under Tuchel and if he does leave has huge respect for Ancelotti. Real pushing hard to sign him. Interesting to see how much freedom Ancelotti is given in the market since before #CFC there was firm talk his job may be under threat. Harsh, but that's Perez.

Over Easter weekend the three remaining bidders for #CFC were asked to provide further clarifications on their final offers. Raine considered, but eventually decided against, ruling out one group before engaging with each bidder. Three strong offers but all quite different.
Boehly bid has the most concrete and expansive plans for development of Stamford Bridge. Broughton bid asked to provide a timescale for how quickly Harris/Blitzer can offload Palace shares. Palace fully cooperative so no delays expected. Big plans for Academy/women’s team growth.
Pagliuca, who has started to engage with fan groups, sees Chelsea and Atalanta working together. Has high-profile investors and sees a development of Stamford Bridge as not just ‘improving’ the stadium but allowing it to be multi-functional away from just #CFC games.

Ricketts family continue to drive bid to buy #CFC, especially the strategy around the pitch & the logistics of due diligence. But Ken Griffin’s investment is key & he’s been part of London meetings. Ricketts hoping optics of others having major or controlling stakes will help.
Up until this point I was always told Griffin would have “significant” shares but it’s never been explicitly said he’d be the majority shareholder. Consortium could well restructure but the original plan (before protests) was always for the Ricketts to have the majority stake.
Raine are still hoping to facilitate a deal worth $4.5bn (£3.4bn). That’s optimistic even with four bidders. Final price is likely to be a little lower but that’s the goal. Boehly has always maintained he won’t overpay and that’s why due diligence is key.

Cooling system was designed when Qatar pitched for a summer World Cup. Stadiums that remain post-World Cup will be used all year round when these coolers will definitely be needed! But Nov-Dec Qatar gets quite chilly & rain (believe it or not) could cause more issues than heat.
I remember commentating on PSG’s winter tour of Doha a few years back & it absolutely tipped it down! Doha will still hit 25 degrees in Dec & 15 degrees at night. But sea breeze makes it feel much colder. Cooling technology can’t hurt but I don’t see climate affecting this WC.
Conditions, from a purely climate perspective, will be much more comfortable than previous World Cups in Brazil, USA and Russia.

One question we didn’t get to in our @CBSSportsGolazo Chelsea chat that’s really interesting is whether #CFC are in breach of EPL sustainability rules or FFP if Abramovich simply writes off 1.5bn in loans. The short answer is yes. 🧵 below with some analysis…
The first thing to state is the new owner may not know with certainty that they won’t have to pay back the loan at a future date. That’s why the due diligence over the coming fortnight is crucial.
The Premier League could determine the club must pay back the loan even if it can’t go directly to Abramovich due to current sanctions. This might mean Chelsea have to form an approved Foundation or charity distant enough from direct club benefit.

Thanks to all who joined our @CBSSportsGolazo Spaces on #CFC. An interesting chat on state of play on & off the field. Seems to be a consensus that Boehly’s bid is well received. Fan groups say no way back in their eyes for Ricketts family and there will be protests this weekend.
Awesome insight from @OliviaBuzaglo and @eli_helenek on the football side and how the squad have been able to sustain form despite the uncertainty. Lot of love for Tuchel.
@jamesbenge has strong knowledge of the process & good ins with some of the Americans behind the bids. No issues with Blitzer/Harris and Palace links. He believes Palace would support a sale if that group is successful.
