Delhi High Court will hear today a PIL challenging the provisions of recently promulgated Criminal Procedure (Identification) Act, 2022.

The act sanctions taking of body measurements of persons including finger-prints, palm-prints, foot-prints, photographs, iris and retina scan etc.
The PIL has challenged the Act on the grounds that it violates individual freedom and rule of law.

The petition will be heard by a Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Vipinn Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla.
Hearing starts.

Advocate Amit Mahajan appears for Centre.
Mahajan: They have to say why they are aggrieved.
Bench dictates order.
Order: Mr Mahajan has raised an issue wrt to maintainability. Issue notice. Respondents to file their reply, including on the aspect on the maintainability of this petition. Same should be in six weeks. List on November 16.
