When Hurricane Ida tore across New York City last year, New Yorkers only received severe weather alerts about the storm from the @NWS in English and Spanish.

The primary language of nearly every New Yorker who lost their life was not English or Spanish.
The @NWS must send its severe weather alerts in more languages than just English and Spanish to ensure all of our communities are effectively warned of severe weather and have a chance to get out of harm's way.

Language should never be a barrier to saving lives.

We are taking legal action to force Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., and Ivanka Trump to comply with our investigation into the Trump Organization’s financial dealings.

No one in this country can pick and choose if and how the law applies to them.
We have uncovered significant evidence indicating that the Trump Organization used fraudulent and misleading asset valuations on multiple properties to obtain economic benefits, including loans, insurance coverage, and tax deductions for years.
Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., and Ivanka Trump have all been closely involved in the transactions in question, so we won’t tolerate their attempts to evade testifying in this investigation.

Today, I am thinking about the words Dr. King spoke on his last full day of life.

On that evening in Memphis in 1968, Dr. King told us that we would someday get to the “promised land.”

After the year we just had, the promised land can seem further and further away.
We are still struggling with the pandemic.
We are still fighting for social justice.
We are still watching efforts to deny sacred rights, like the right to vote, from too many Americans.

But at our best we are fighting on and continuing MLK's work and legacy.
In his honor, we must do all we can to protect our most basic democratic right to vote.

We must pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to ensure that our elections are fair, our ballot boxes accessible, and that all Americans are heard.

As we close the door on 2021, it's been my honor to continue serving and protecting the rights of every New Yorker.

Here's a look at some of our biggest highlights over the past year:
➡️Held several manufacturers and distributors of opioids accountable for fueling the opioid crisis

➡️Brought up to $1.5 billion to New York to help end this epidemic and save lives

➡️Won a major trial against opioid manufacturer @TevaUSA & others for the devastation they caused
✅Defended the constitutional right to access abortion services in New York and across the U.S.

✅Successfully called on the FDA to make medication abortion fully accessible via telehealth and mail

✅Scored a major court victory to protect equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community

Millions of U.S. citizens living in Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories are unjustly denied federal benefits.

I'm fighting this inhumane policy today, in Puerto Rico with the @HispanicFed and at the Supreme Court because all Americans must be treated equally.
Next week, this very issue will be heard before the Supreme Court, and we urge the federal government to drop its case to deny these benefits to Puerto Ricans and other U.S. citizens.

Puerto Ricans are Americans, and every American deserves equal protection under the law.
