Trump and his minions were terrified of a Biden presidency--not just because they wanted to stay in office so they could keep criming and acquiring more wealth, but also because they (rightly) feared an actual DOJ would prosecute them for their mob activities.
1/9
So they committed an offense far worse than anything they'd yet so far done in their petty grifting crime spree. They attempted a vast and complex multi-pronged coup, intended to keep them in power so as to protect them from prosecution.
2/9
They failed to retain power, but they've (so far) partially succeeded in evading prosecution for their lesser crimes. They're instead being investigated (and will be prosecuted) for the far more serious crime of seditious conspiracy.
3/9
This is what tinpot "strongmen" and their sycophants fear most--not that they'd be prosecuted for anything as mundane and common as stealing from the Treasury or mishandling a pandemic or perverting the public trust. Death, destruction and theft are all peanuts.
4/9
What truly terrifies them is being ridiculed instead of feared, to have their oh-so-brilliant stratagems laid bare and fail, to be stripped naked in public and die in defeat, despair and poverty; to be revealed as not strong, wealthy or clever, but helpless, poor and stupid.
5/9
The descendants of Gaetz, Boebert, Meadows, Greene, Cawthorn, Bannon and all the rest will change their names, deny their ancestors, and be forced to hide from the inheritors of Simon Wiesenthal. That is what they truly fear, and that is what will happen.
6/9
In the end, Trump will die alone--a failure, not merely hated but also held in utter contempt. Anyone associated with his Reich will be condemned, not only by history, but by their peers.
That is what most horrifies them. They will achieve nothing. They will become nothing.
7/9
They will all live to see their attempts to establish a thousand-year neofeudal fascist Reich come to nothing and turn to dust and ash.
Book burning will fail. Turning back the clock to the days of slavery and homophobia will fail.
8/9
The time when the only real leader (or full citizen) is a straight white male Christo-fascist slaveowner is done, and will not return. That terrifies them all. And they will live to see their dreams of depredation die.
Screams for ending student loans (even though there've been no payment for 2 years) is the new "But Her Emails!"--a propaganda campaign aimed to convince the weak-minded to not vote for Biden's reelection. This is blatant now: "He Broke Promises!!" though he didn't promise this.
Every time you point out the President can't do it by Divine Command, every time you mention that cancelling loans has to be funded, every time you mention the $15 billion that've been cancelled under existing programs, the response is, "That's why you're going to LOSE in 2022!"
The whole point is to encourage people to not vote.
That.
Is.
The.
Whole.
Point.
It's a coordinated campaign to convince people who aren't paying attention (mostly rich white kids) that their unicorn steaks are more important the saving the goddam world from fascism.
I've gotten into discussions, on Twitter and off, regarding student loans. Let be be clear: I don't oppose cancelling student loans. I don't support it either.
There is no proposal anywhere to cancel student loans, so there isn't yet anything to support or oppose.
1/10
To be accurate: there are existing programs that allow the Secretary of Education to cancel selected student loans, usually in cases of extreme hardship or predatory lenders. The Biden Administration has already cancelled $15 billion in student loans under those programs.
2/10
I absolutely support those programs, and I want them to continue, and I want more loans cancelled under them, as funding permits.
To go beyond those programs would require an act of Congress, and no one has yet (to my knowledge) written a single proposal.
I sometimes discuss the importance of democracy with self-described "leftists", and why it's vital to #VoteBlue to prevent a fascist dictatorship.
This isn't universal (yet), but I'm increasingly hearing them say, "We don't have a democracy anyway. We have an oligarchy."
1/6
Their argument is, It's okay if fascists win, because democracy is already dead.
So why are you involved in politics at all? Why do you push for policies you say you want? If democracy is dead, the Voice of the People is irrelevant, and none of your words or acts matter.
2/6
More importantly, the conviction that "democracy is already dead" is a clarion call to inactivism. It is a declaration of defeat. These dead-enders are purposely supporting fascist autocracy by preemptively installing its software in their own minds.
3/6
I'm tired of fauxgressives declaring, "You need us, or you'll lose the next elections! So bow to our demands!"
Really? Like YOU don't need Democrats to accomplish any of the things you claim to want? No, biatch, you play by OUR rules, or you get total nothing.
1/7
Look, in truth, no one counts on your vote. You stay home and hold your breath whenever you feel like it. We're reaching beyond you to the millions who are just realizing the dangers of not voting for Democrats.
You're not going to help yourself by throwing a tantrum.
2/7
Suppose you got everything you say you want--what reason would you vote at all after that? You've already got everything you want. Getting high in mom's basement is better than standing in line to save democracy, right?
See, we know you're not willing to save democracy now.
3/7
SCOTUS is expected to weaken or even reverse Roe v Wade this summer. About half of the states have laws ready to trigger immediately, making abortion a felony. By the November election, we will have news stories of (poor) women dying in illegal back-alley abortions.
1/5
By November, there will be people in prison for assisting women who travel to blue states where abortion is still legal. There will be stories of rich Republicans who jet to California for abortions. There'll be doctors charged with felonies for performing safe abortions.
2/5
Republican rhetoric will be that the people in prison, and the women who die, deserved it.
There will be fake-leftist trolls condemning Democrats for not having stopped it.
Let's start a call NOW for a Constitutional Amendment protecting the legal right to abortion.
3/5
Every now and then, I see people pushing the idea of a Universal Basic Income, or UBI. Let's put that idea in its grave, shall we?
The usual form of the idea, which sounds pretty good on its surface, is to pay every America (for example) $2,000 per months. Wow! Great!
1/21
In the most simple version, you get this money from the day you're born until the day you die. Presumably, it's adjusted for inflation, and increases over time, but we'll ignore that detail for simplicity.
2/21
The idea is to cover your basic living expenses, help raise children, see you through tough times when you can't find a job, help pay for education and healthcare, and so on. Everyone gets it, because we're all humans, and basic living is a human right.
