We don't need this mine.

It won't lower bills, provide energy security, or offer secure jobs. Here's why... 🧵
#NoNewCoal
bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…
The Whitehaven mine would produce coking coal for steel production - not for energy - and 85-90% of the coal will be exported.

And the coal produced would replace imports from the U.S., not from Russia.
The jobs created by this mine will be minimal and short term.

Instead of jobs in a dying industry, the people of Whitehaven deserve secure jobs in clean industries like electric cars, home insulation and renewable energy.
The science is clear - there must be no new fossil fuel projects if we're to meet climate targets & protect our planet.

This mine won't provide energy security or secure jobs, & will damage our planet for years.

Michael Gove must make the right decision & reject this mine.

Despite huge public outcry the #PolicingBill has been forced through, diminishing our rights and weakening democracy.

But this is far from the outright victory the government sought to win.
mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…
The House of Lords kicked out some of the most draconian proposed measures, such as individual protest bans and police powers to stop and search protestors.
But the #PolicingBill is still the most significant restriction of civil liberties in a generation.

The government’s assault on the nomadic way of life of already persecuted Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities has no place in any country that claims to respect human rights.

The gov is proposing an ‘anti-boycott bill’ that threatens our ability to campaign for social & climate justice in the UK & around the world.

Along with 40+ unions, civil society & faith orgs, we've signed a statement condemning this➡️ righttoboycott.org.uk
#RightToBoycott
The bill is the latest government attack on our civil space to protest and win positive change.

It's intended to outlaw the boycott, divestment, and sanctions campaigning that pressures Israel to halt its illegal attacks on the Palestinian people and their rights.
In condemning this bill, we stand in solidarity with our Palestinian sister organisation @FoePengon and their struggle for justice against Israel's occupation and severe violations of their human and environmental rights.

1/) It's #EnvironmenstrualWeek with @Wen_UK, so we're talking period plastic and access to sustainable period care...

Access to sustainable period products is an environmental and social justice issue 🩸 A thread 👇
2/) The cheapest menstrual product options are often those with the most potential to damage our health and planet, which means people with the least power have the greatest exposure to dangerous products.
/3) Did you know that conventional sanitary pads contain a high percentage of plastic? One estimate is that pads are made of up to 90% plastic  – another is that a pack of menstrual pads is equivalent to 4 plastic bags.

⚡ YOU'VE WON! WE'VE WON! ⚡
The government has just announced an official end to their support for #fracking in England, after years of tireless campaigning. Fracking isn't wanted, isn't needed, and now - isn't happening.

Huge congratulations to all amazing campaigners! 🎉🍻💪
“This... is a tremendous victory for communities and the climate. For nearly a decade local people... have fought a David and Goliath battle against this powerful (#fracking) industry. We are proud to have been part of that fight.” - @CraigBennett3

theguardian.com/environment/20…
@CraigBennett3 We welcome the moratorium on #fracking in England, but we must now ensure that legislation is passed so that the ban is made permanent. #BanFracking #ClimateEmergency
