In any other country, this Doctor would've received highest civilian awards for his contribution for his services.
Alas, this is India!
Story of Dr A V Baliga, Surgeon, Freedom Fighter who fought against British & Portuguese.
Dr. A. V. Baliga was born on April 26, 1904
at Kallianpur, Udupi.
Finishing his primary education at his village, Baliga joined Christian High School in Udupi.
In 1920, when MKG gave a call to students to leave educational institutions run by the British, Baliga left the school, and he was not readmitted because he
was the leader who called for boycott.
Subsequently, he joined the National School in Udupi, which was affiliated to the Gujarat Vidyapeeth, a nationalist institute.
Dr. Baliga passed his matriculation, but since the British did not recognize that matriculation, he could not
join the M.B.B.S Course. He was forced to join the L.C.P.S course at the National Medical College, Bombay. Dr. Baliga also had to finance his education by means of private tuitions. He finished his L.C.P.S course by standing first in the examinations.
He caught the attention of
Dr. G. V. Deshmukh of K.E.M Hospital and was appointed as a House Surgeon under him. He also worked as a House Physician, Anesthetics and a Casualty Officer. However, Dr. Baliga was meant for greater things. He proceeded to the United Kingdom for his fellowship. He went on to
complete the London Matriculation, L.R.C.P, M.R.C.S and finally F.R.C.S. He returned to India in 1933 and was appointed as Assistant Honorary Surgeon at the K.E.M. Hospital and also started his private practice.
He got married to Kamala in December 1933. From then on till 1964
he rapidly rose in stature as a Surgeon both in India and Internationally.

During the Quit India Movement quite a few leaders had gone underground. Prominent among them were Mr. Jayaprakash Narayan, Mr. Achyuth Patwardhan and Mrs. Aruna Asif Ali. He sheltered them at great
personal risk. Exposure would have meant jail and the end of his professional career. That, however, did not deter him from doing his duty for the freedom of the country.
Even after Independence, Dr Baliga was actively involved in Goa Liberation Movement.
Dr. Baliga’s forte was
his diagnosis of difficult cases. He paid great attention to minute details in every operative procedure and was very methodical in post-operative care.
Dr. Baliga was also largely instrumental in establishing the Kumta College of Arts and Sciences (now Dr. Baliga college).
He also helped in establishing the M.G.M. College in Udupi, Kasturba Medical College in Manipal and Orthopedic Children’s Hospital in Haji Ali. He was a founder member of the Association of Surgeons of India.
Dr Baliga had a dream of becoming a journalist and publisher,
this dream became a reality with the publishing of the "PATRIOT", a daily, and "LINK", a magazine through which he could express independent social and political views.
The Disgruntled 2nd rung Communist leaders who were disenchanted with China favouring Commis gave leads to
Dr Baliga who was also the President of Indo-Soviet Cultural Union.
(This news appeared in CIA Archived Document, which says Nehru Menon were responsible for failure against China even after receiving multiple alarms)
Dr A V Baliga, passed away in 1964...
There is no record
about the date of his demise.
This is the way we remember our heroes.

Did you know?

The UPA government had done injustice with S Jaishankar as after Rajan Mathai's retirement in July 2013, Jaishankar was all set to be Foreign Secretary but under pressure of two senior Congress ministers and senior bureaucrats in the PMO, he was ignored. Image
In the end of January 2015, Modi government appointed India's ambassador to the United States, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar as the new Foreign Secretary, replacing Sujatha Singh, the country's highest ranking diplomat, about seven months before she was due to retire.
The PMO always felt that she was not perfect to work on many agendas of the Modi government and Jaishankar had gained the trust of the new establishment at the Centre because of his diplomatic skills and knowledge.

Earlier, there were reports that Modi was impressed by

An introduction for the unsung hero of this tweet.
” When the only Bharatiya in the viceroy’s council
made his way back to Madras after his resignation, it was an ovation all the way, the like of which had never been seen before in India. There were feasts and entertainments wherever the train stopped and crackers were fired under the wheels of the railway, so much so that there
