World Pilots Day

Do you know why World Pilots’ Day is celebrated on 26 April each year? Let’s take a look at who came up with the idea of celebrating the fascinating job of pilots and the history behind this day.

Turkey’s first pilot
OTD in 1912, a young Turkish pilot named Fesa Evrensev took his first flight. He was born in 1878 in Istanbul, Turkey. After graduating, he decided to pursue a military career and he joined the Military Academy to graduate as a Cavalry Lieutenant.
2/10
Since his first day in the Academy, it was clear Fesa was destined to fly. He was the best student in the pilot class and passed the final exam with the highest evaluation. Shortly after, Fesa was appointed General Manager of the State Airlines Administration.
3/10
It later evolved into what we now know as Turkish Airlines. Throughout his career, Fesa held different positions within the Turkish Aeronautical Association, making him one of the most prominent figures in the aviation world.
4/10
The history behind World Pilots’ Day
Given the importance of Fesa Evrensev in the history of Turkish aviation, the Turkish Airlines Pilots’ Association was the first to establish the 26th of April as Pilots Day with an aim to commemorate Fesa’s first flight in 1912.
5/10
An essential role in establishing this day as the world pilots’ day was played by the International Federation of Air Line Pilot’s Association (IFALPA). This association dates back to 1948 when a conference of pilots’ associations was held in London.
6/10
The conference aimed at providing all pilots in the world with a formal means to interact with the newly established International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). As for now, 104 pilots associations have joined IFALPA, representing more than 100,000 pilots worldwide.
7/10
It is estimated that there are between 1.5 and 2.3 million pilots in the world, which includes military and non commercial pilots as well.
In 2013, the IFALPA concluded it was high time they found a day to celebrate all these pilots.
8/10
Therefore, they thought the 26th of April, a day that saw a prominent figure in aviation history taking to the sky for the first time, could be an appropriate solution. The following year, on 26th April 2014, World Pilots Day was celebrated for the first time.
9/10
This year marks the 9th World Pilots’ Day.
And on this day, here's wishing all pilots of the world a wonderful day, with a special thanks to them for their dedication and professionalism.
Clear Skies and Happy Landings, Always...

Food For Thought
(Via WhatsApp)

No one is stupid, no one is clever (all perceptions are incomplete)
"In a train, two children were running here and there. Sometimes they would fight with each other, and at times they would jump on top of seats.
1/9
The father, sitting nearby, was lost in his thoughts.
In between, when the children looked at him, he would put on an affectionate smile, and then the children would again get busy with their mischief and the father would keep looking at them lovingly.
2/9
The co-travellers of the train were upset by the children's playfulness and annoyed by the father's attitude. Since it was night time, everyone wanted to rest.
Seeing the running around of the children, a traveller could not stop himself and exclaimed to the father,

Fighter Pilots or other categories of Air Crew.
It does not mean that we shouldn't share our unique experiences of our active service tenures.
Herewith, I share one of my experiences while in active service.
Our Armed Forces is a big team and I have an excellent example...

of a teamwork to share:
(My comment at this time is that the God Almighty visits us in various shapes and sizes. As the story unfolds, you'd realise the meaning of my statement!)

A bitter and shocking (but in the end, sweet and lovely) memory of 1969 that occurred in...

‘Battle Inoculation’ & ‘Survival’ were probably the most important part of the training in the ‘Academy’ and anything and everything post-lunch till the first rays of the sun was the actual training.

Alma Mater taught us many prime things and it didn’t always happen at PT, Parade, Games or at the Academic and Outdoor Training.

Cognition was at its best when one looked at all those meaningful quotes on the Wall & Desk of the LH (Lecture Halls).

Soul-Satisfied People
(Another beautiful story that teaches us that a lesson in life can come from the most unexpected quarters)

I was waiting at the bus stand to go to my hometown. The bus had not yet arrived at the bus stand.
I was sitting there reading a book.
1/6
Seeing me, a girl of about 10 years of age came to me and said, "Sir, please buy these pens, I will give you four pens for Rs.10. I am very hungry, I will get to eat something."
There was a little boy with her too, maybe her brother.
I said, "Well I don't need a pen."
2/6
Her next question was very sweet, "Then how will we eat something?"
I said, "I don't want a pen, but you will definitely eat something."
I had two packets of biscuits in my bag. I took out both the packets and handed one to each of them.

Stranger than Fiction
(A real story worth reading and emulating)
When the Old and New Cities of Jerusalem were reunited in 1967, a recently widowed Arab woman, who had been living in Old Jerusalem since 1948, wanted to see once more the house in which she formerly lived.
1/9
Now that the city was one, she searched for and found her old home.
She knocked on the door of the apartment, and a Jewish widow came to the door and greeted her. The Arab woman explained that she had lived there until 1948 and wanted to look around.
2/9
She was invited in and offered coffee. The Arab woman said, "When I lived here, I hid some valuables. If they are still here, I will share them with you half and half."

The Jewish woman refused. "If they belonged to you and are still here, they are yours."
