#OttCity council begins. A last-minute addition is a verbal update from acting chief Steve Bell about a motorcycle rally this weekend. ##OttNews
The meeting is streaming live here:

As for people deciding to come down and join the public gallery for the first time in 2+ years, very few have come down. #OttCity
"It's important to set context and expectations," says Bell. "We see a lot of conflict online over this event, much of it from people and groups behind keyboards far away who want to drive social discord. I absolutely do not want to see this conflict on our streets." #OttNews
Bell says organizers tell police 500 motorcycles expected. Many to stay in downtown hotels. Also, an event expected in a rural area near Eagleson Road, Bells says. And, a church in Vanier is known to be frequented by these groups, Bell adds. #OttCity
Downtown councillors McKenney and Fleury are both most concerned for their own residents who they say are still traumatized by the truck convoy a couple of months ago. #OttCity
Menard asks about the CN Cycle for CHEO, a fundraiser taking place this weekend too for the first time since 2019.

Bell says police will make sure it goes off and is safe for participants. #OttCity #OttNews
Earlier in the meeting, Streetcar 696 volunteers received the mayor’s city builder award. Ottawa Morning also had an interview this morning: cbc.ca/listen/live-ra…
Tim McIntyre also received the award for his volunteer work, including his fundraising event DufFest. #OttCity
Council approved the provincial housing funding reports from last week's planning committee. Tucked in there was $800K for shelters to help them with their staffing issues: cbc.ca/news/canada/ot… #OttCity
Council approves making green bins mandatory in new condos and apartment buildings in June, and working to implement organics in existing buildings. cbc.ca/news/canada/ot… #OttCity
Council approves not charging transit fares for not only Ukrainians who've recently arrived, but a motion from McKenney (Hubley supports) extends it to all refugees. Here are Hubley's original motion and today's amendment.

Things got a bit heated over the approval of the rezoning for the Caivan 1,000-home subdivision in #Barrhaven near the Jock River.

cbc.ca/news/canada/ot… #OttCity
Yesterday, councillors McKenney (who's long had concerns cbc.ca/news/canada/ot…) and Meehan (downstream) wrote to the #OttCity AG and Ontario ombudsman asking them to investigate: #OttCity
Coun. Moffatt, who's been on the RVCA board for a decade said they shouldn't "malign" the conservation authority and suggest wrong-doing if they can't prove wrong-doing exists.
It was hard to hear the dissents on the rezoning for Caivan Conservancy (east side of Borrisokane Road), which passed. I heard McKenney, Deans, Meehan, Kavanagh. #OttCity #Barrhaven
A long motion of whereases from #Kanata North Coun. Curry, seconded by Watson, about ClubLink's plan to redevelop the Kanata Golf and Country Club.

They want the provincial government to stop it, now, as Ford govt did for the Glen Abbey course in Oakville.

#OttNews
Leiper notes Kanata golf club is not Glen Abbey. He wonders if it will be a case of "careful what you ask for". Ford gov't wants to build more housing.

Watson: Fullerton has in past asked for a motion like this. He and Curry want to get it in before writ is issued. #OttCity

The mayor and incoming police board chair Eli El-Chantiry thanked Matt Torigian for not coming to Ottawa after all to be the interim police chief, and for his "extremely gracious handling of this difficult situation."

cbc.ca/news/canada/ot… #ottcity #ottnews
We did not hear back directly from Mr. Torigian today, but did try to learn more about him, given his hiring caused such debate last night. He had been chief of the Waterloo Region until 2014.

We'd seen he was named in an affidavit (for passing women over for promotions) in a broader proposed class action lawsuit related to gender-based harassment. That class action never ended up being certified by the courts. cbc.ca/news/canada/ki…

Leaving aside the board's executive director, four of the seven members in this photo are no longer on the board in the light of a new day. #ottcity
All four council appointed representatives have resigned from the police services board -- or in Deans' case, been voted out.
The three provincial appointees remain. #ottcity

A special #ottcity council meeting begins. It stands to be high-drama, with Diane Deans possibly being taken off the police services board. #ottnews

Immediately, Coun. Menard asks for a "more neutral" chair for the meeting than Mayor Jim Watson.

He asks deputy mayor Dudas to chair instead, but loses.

(My vote count and the deputy clerk's tally don't quite work out but here's what I heard). #ottcity #ottnews
