Find out more in the 🧵 below…
Until recently, older voters have turned away from Labour since the party left office in 2010.
In 2019, support from over-55s reached a record breaking low
There will be no future Labour PM unless more older voters vote Labour
They are much more likely to vote; a high share previously vote Conservative; and many are supportive of Labour’s core values. On average, Labour’s target seats are ‘older’ than the seats it won in 2019.
Over-55s are more likely than average to believe Labour has been moving in the right direction.
Our December 2021 poll found Labour lead the Conservatives on 13 issues, including improving living standards. However, they fall behind on public finances, immigration, and crime.
Reconnecting with older voters is critical if Labour wants to win.
But to do so, Labour must rebuild trust to govern and offer a better future, grounded in mainstream British values.
This means… 👇
💷Reassuring on fiscal credibility and economic competence
🧑🤝🧑Providing clear and sincere leadership on immigration
🌹Setting out a positive and unifying story about the future of our country under Labour
🔒Prioritising ‘security’ in all its forms
