Less than 2.5 hours of exposure while wearing an N99 was enough for my partner to be infected by super transmissible Omicron.
Public Health turned Politicians have left us on our own & there is no magic bullet. Individuals can only mitigate a moderate amount of risk.
Learning to "Live with COVID" is a goal that requires a collective response. In this so called Urgency of Normal, as people lose their resilience & choose denial over reality, collective action has been shunned and vilified, including by many psychologists & healthcare providers.
This is far from normal. This is an #UrgencyofEquity. Individuals must now learn how to make & accept a reasonable risk calculus of unreasonable harms every day while the non-resilient people around them can decrease that risk by an order of magnitude, but choose their #freedumb.
What does it mean to "Learn to Live With Covid"?
Every citizen must learn how to extend the duration of time until inhaling an infectious viral dose, and then choose that as their goal. One virus-laden particle does not cause an infectious dose. Many particles do.
No single tool is enough to stop 1 of the most infectious airborne diseases humans have ever encountered, the evolution of which we foster through propagation to unknown ends, mass disabling of ppl, & a crippled economy.
We need collective, resilient responses for the long haul.
As individuals, we're forced to make do with inequitable access to the tools we need to Learn to Live With COVID. To make a reasonable risk calculus and be expected to mitigate that risk, we have a collective need for equitable access to education, timely data & essential tools.
We need timely & equitable access to:
- data on current community spread
- booster doses
- local vaccination rates
- publicly posted real-time air quality readings in all shared-air indoor spaces
- N95s & N99s
- air filtration
- RATS
- therapeutics
- functional healthcare
We need COVID minimizers to:
- understand different risk profiles
- value humanity
- be honest with themselves about the causes of their failing resilience
- make evidence-based decisions, not manufacture decision-based evidence
- understand #LongCOVID is globally transformative

CO2 monitors are a transformational tool in the PPE kit people need for accurate, real-time risk mitigation. I carry one everywhere now. They should be in every classroom when schools re-open for f2f learning. As with all PPE, there must be equitable access. A (20)22 tweet 🧵:

There are a variety of CO2 monitors to choose from. For accuracy, you want one with an NDIR sensor. They cost a bit more and are worth it. There are pros and cons to different models.

Factors to consider in selection: 1. NDIR CO2 sensor 2. $ 3. Accuracy 4. Size & weight 5. Durability 6. Battery power 7. Portability 8. App & Connectivity 9. Historical data 10. Screen 11. Other sensors of interest 12. Your usage needs and patterns
