A corrupt cop accidentally hits and kills a man on the road and gets blackmailed by another corrupt cop. High energy action movie with pretty good plot lines. 7/10
21 Bridges 🇺🇸
Good cops and robbers and good cop versus bad cops movie, set in New York City. Nothing remarkable but acting, plot and production are well above average in the genre. 7/10
Contagion 🇺🇸
Movie about a mysterious contagious disease that spreads rapidly across the globe. Seemingly based on SARS, the similarities with COVID-18 are eery. Excellent movie. 8/10
Brother 🇫🇷
Rough French movie about a teen who is out in a brutal home for teenage delinquents where he has to hard choices to make. Depressing, gritty story, great acting. 8/10
Quicksand 🇸🇪
Swedish series about a rich teenage girl who is accused of a school shooting with her fucked up millionaire’s son boyfriend. Strong acting from main actress. 7/10
Siberia 🇺🇸
American is set up by his Russian partner and gets in between the mafia and the FSB while keeping a new love in Siberia out of danger. Entertaining with abrupt ending. 7/10
Hillbilly Elegy 🇺🇸
Movie about the life story of JD Vance that is based on the book that made him famous. Sure hope the book is better because this movie was boring. 4/10
Don’t Back Down: Revolt 🇬🇧
A mix of Blood Sport and Taken in which few cliches are spared. Young British-Chechen woman agrees to illegal fight to clear debt of brother and gets taken. Predictable. 6/10
Bordertown: Mural Murders 🇫🇮
Epilogue to the much appreciated three-season series about the autistic Finnish detective is like a long episode, similar set-up, story, and acting. For the fans! 8/10
Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives 🇺🇸
Documentary about one of the biggest A&R people in music, who worked with artists from Janis Joplin to Maroon 5, but it weirdly changes into a movie about perhaps his biggest star, Whitney Houston. 5/10
Sitting in Limbo 🇬🇧
Powerful movie about the Windrush Scandal, that tells the (real) story of a man who lived almost his whole life in the UK and faces sudden deportation. Depressing insight into bureaucratic xenophobia. 8/10
The Unforgiveable 🇺🇸
Sandra Bullock plays a woman who served 20 years in jail for killing a cop and who is trying to get back in touch with her little sister. Very strong acting by Bullock in this overall depressing tale. 8/10
Sorry To Bother You
Movie about young Black man who makes it rich by selling out, which includes critique of capitalism (Amazon) and race. While movie is highly original in terms of cinematography, it is more tricks than story and with a dumb ending. 5/10
The Harder They Fall 🇺🇸
A Black Western that stands out in modern music and cheap movie sets but, in the end, becomes too long and boring like most Westerns. 5/10
Million Yen Women 🇯🇵
Five women come to live with an unsuccessful writer and pay him 1 million yen per month. Extremely strange and original series of short episodes. Refreshingly different. 8/10
I know, I should do some work now, but I think I'm going to go down to my "media room" and watch some more movies. 😊

A quick #thread to contextualize the current spike in "anti-antisemitism" in much of Western Europe. 🧵
1. In postwar Western Europe, defined by the Holocaust and still deeply colonial, #antisemitism became the main (sole) indicator of racism in general, and the far right in particular.
2. Serious far-right parties in Western Europe quickly understood this and stayed away from both antisemitism and anti-Zionism (at least explicitly).
1. Before you continue to read, let me come clean: for months I have been arguing that PiS would not accept Fidesz as long as Ukraine War is salient. So, clearly I am not a sage!
2. Even after 30 years of professionally studying it, I still seem to underestimate the sheer cynicism, opportunism, and power-hungriness of party politics.
Bart de Wever heeft besloten dat VB-lite niet meer genoeg is om VB te verslaan dus gaat hij nu voor VB-on-steroids. Absoluut verwerpelijke en gevaarlijke uiterst-rechtse propaganda!
Because some people here do value my #MovieReviews 🎥, I have decided to use a special hashtag #cmovies and post them in this #thread 🧵 going forward.
Warning: most come from Netflix US!
Short series about a woman who revenges her husband’s death in a town full of secrets. Good acting and beautiful vistas. Last twist too predictable. 🇦🇹 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Movie about traumatized musical genius and his unlikely mentor, which plays with a range of emotions and social issues without becoming usual US cliché. 🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
