Last night a draft opinion of the USA Supreme Court was leaked and would pave the way for abortion rights to be overturned in the US. This major attack on fundamental rights can have global implications for women, girls, and people who can get pregnant.
The year is 2022 and we are STILL fighting against decisions that retrogress governments’ obligation to protect the rights of girls, women, and people who can get pregnant. Our right to decide is under attack. #RoeVWade#legalabortion#BansOffOurBodies
It could not be clearer: the right to access safe abortion is a human right. If the Supreme Court in the US decides to ban abortion, it is Black, Indigenous, and lower-income people who will suffer the most.
Always forward, never back: judges must not weaponize personal beliefs to remove the fundamental rights of millions. The stakes are too high. #RoeVWade#legalabortion
Body autonomy means freedom to millions of girls, women, and pregnant people. We cannot remove this fundamental right from their lives. If the supreme court bans abortion it can crumble the foundation of human's rights. #RoeVWade#legalabortion
A possible decision to ban abortion can further impoverish, criminalize, and incarcerate people who are able to become pregnant in the US. This has global implications, and we will not be silenced until fundamental rights are fully secured.
No matter how the Supreme Court rules, we will never stop fighting for abortion rights in the US and worldwide. #BansOffOurBodies

1/ Sustainable peace in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory requires international justice for victims of all crimes. amn.st/6016C86rO
2/ Amnesty International has been extensively documenting violations of human rights in Israel and the OPT. We have documented how Israel has committed and is continuing to commit genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and how its ongoing system of apartheid amounts to crimes against humanity.
3/ Amnesty International has now published an in-depth investigation documenting how Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups committed war crimes and crimes against humanity during their assault on southern Israel, and against hostages held in Gaza thereafter.
A year after the racist violence that followed the murder of three young girls in Southport, @amnesty has found that social media platform X played a key role in spreading false narratives & harmful content, contributing to racist violence targeting Muslims & migrants in the UK. amn.st/6012fgNTu
Our technical analysis of X’s open-source code reveals that the platform's content-ranking algorithms, which drive the “For You” page, systematically prioritize content that sparks outrage & provokes heated exchanges.
Further analysis of X’s algorithmic ranking system reveals that falsehoods, irrespective of their harmfulness, can be prioritized and surface more quickly in timelines than verified information.
These design features provided fertile ground for inflammatory racist narratives to thrive on X in the wake of the Southport attack and continue to pose human rights risks today. It is time for accountability.
It is outrageous and morally reprehensible that it took the world nearly 80 days of broadcast starvation and cruelty amidst genocide to exert enough pressure on Israel to even slightly ease its total siege that has blocked the entry of all food, medicine, fuel and other vital goods since 2 March.
In a video on Telegram Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted the decision to allow “basic” food into Gaza 77 days after imposing a full siege on the occupied Gaza Strip was in part because Israel’s allies could not tolerate “images of mass starvation”
Letting in a handful of aid trucks – a drop in the ocean, while simultaneously intensifying military operations, killing hundreds of civilians within few days and issuing new mass displacement orders are a cynical attempt to sugarcoat an Israel’s ongoing genocide.
These new laws passed by the Knesset will stop UNRWA from operating in occupied East Jerusalem and seriously impede its work in the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory (West Bank and Gaza Strip) which will have devastating consequences for Palestinians, particularly those facing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in occupied Gaza.
UNRWA is a lifeline offering humanitarian aid, education & shelter for millions of Palestinian refugees in the OPT & neighbouring countries. As the occupying power, Israel has a legal obligation to ensure the basic needs of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, and to uphold their human rights.
By impeding UNRWA’s operations, Israel is violating the ICJ’s orders for it to take immediate measures to protect Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip from the risk of genocide, including by ensuring sufficient humanitarian assistance & facilitating basic services.
In Lebanon, authorities are using criminal defamation laws as a weapon to harass, intimidate and attack journalists and critics who report on allegations of corruption in the country.
🧵 Today’s decision by the @CIJ_ICJ to order additional provisional measures in South Africa’s genocide case against Israel highlights the continuing catastrophic deterioration of conditions & the growing threat to Palestinians in occupied #Gaza since the ICJ’s last ruling.
The Court’s decision to issue additional measures is a clear indication of the State of Israel’s failure thus far to comply with the previous legally binding measures issued by the Court, as already reiterated by @Amnesty and others.
In its decision, the ICJ stressed that Palestinians in Gaza are no longer facing only a risk of famine, but that famine is “setting in” necessitating the modification of the original provisional measures order to address the exceptionally grave developments.
