CONTENT WARNING (sexual assault): ABORTION: When I was 21, I was drugged and raped violently in the military. When I tried to report it, I was told I’d be dishonorably discharged for filing a false report and court martialed for adultery because my rapist was married 1/
Despite trying to take multiple birth control pills as a makeshift Plan B (which wasn’t available then), I found out I was pregnant. I was able to get access to abortion care at @PPFA along with a counseling referral since I couldn’t talk to anyone in the military 2/
Access to that care saved my life. Rape in the military is prevalent and TO THIS DAY they still haven’t taken the decision to prosecute assault out of the chain of command, leading to situations like mine where it’s unsafe to report the rape. 3/
Active duty service members don’t exactly get to choose what state they live in, and without abortion care, I would have been forced by the government to give birth to my rapist’s baby and raise it while trying to cope with PTSD. 4/
Active duty service members also don’t have the freedom to simply travel to other states without a leave chit approved up the chain of command. The same chain of command that gets to decide whether or not to prosecute rape. 5/
I hope @SecDef & @POTUS will support leave for abortion care, & that @SenSchumer will bring the bill by @SenGillibrand & @SenJoniErnst that takes the decision to prosecute out of the chain of command to the floor for a vote. It has 66 co-sponsors in the senate. END #RoeVsWade
Here’s my guess on the followers phenomenon. You know how republicans buy copies of their own books to boost their ranks on the best seller lists? I assume they do the same with fake followers on Twitter. 1/
When all the fascists left after donald got booted, those fake followers got redistributed. Now that the right wingers are coming back, I bet those fake followers are being redirected back to their accounts and away from ours. 2/
I’d bet money conservatives get fake likes and fake downloads on their podcasts and have fake followers. They lie about crowd size. They have to keep up the facade that they’re popular. But when the rubber meets the road, they can’t draw 2000 people to a rally 3/
THREAD: JUSTICE: Meet Thomas Windom. He was brought in SEVERAL MONTHS AGO to investigate the top of the coup at the DoJ. Did you hear about it before today? Nope. #justice#January6th 1/
Why are we only hearing about it now? Because squeaky targets like Alex Jones and Ali Alexander are leaking. The DoJ has been doing this for months without any of us knowing. As it should be. 2/
Thomas Windom comes to the @USAO_DC from Maryland and has been working with the NATIONAL SECURITY and CRIMINAL DIVISIONS at Main Justice to investigate criminal activity OTHER THAN what took place at the Capitol January 6th, such as the more complicated conspiracy cases. 3/
NEW: THREAD: Everyone is talking about the exhibits (the ones containing all the text messages including one about Ronny Jackson) filed in Oath Keeper Ed Vallejo’s motion to get out of pre-trial detention, but no one is talking about the actual motion. So allow me. 1/
In addition to the 300+ pages of texts, there’s a separate 33-page motion for release, and I wanted to read THAT because it didn’t stand to reason that Vallejo would post all of these text messages and podcast transcripts as a reason to let him out of jail pending trial. 2/
He even included the DoJ’s motion to KEEP him in jail as part of the exhibits. How does that help his case? So I wanted to read the motion explaining WHY he did that. Turns out, there’s no good reason and his lawyer is irretrievably stupid. 3/
NEW INDICTMENTS: Today, the SDNY has unsealed an indictment against three Russians with ties to Putin. It appears these three sanctioned guys had a US citizen friend with ties to pro-Russian US congresspeople and used that person to try to set up meetings with them. 1/
The defendants have apparently been in contact with this US citizen since 2011, and used that person to try to get pro-Russian sympathy in the US after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. The Russians were sanctioned after that and were denied visas to travel here. 2/
In 2017, one of the defendants drafted a plan outlining how to "recruit well-known persons to launch propaganda campaigns in favor of Russia" using their longtime US Citizen friend. When they applied for visas, they listed the US citizen as a reference. 3/
BREAKING: Judge grants government more time in the Tarrio case (excellent) and denies Nordean’s motions to sever Tarrio and Pezzola from his case. Says DoJ isn’t violating the speedy trial rights of Nordean. 1/
DoJ only just cracked Tarrio’s phone. And I learned some things tonight from friendly and knowledgeable twitter followers about cracking phones. First, even if Apple wanted to help the FBI crack a phone, they can’t. The encryption is written so it can’t be cracked. 2/
Apple would have to write a back door into their encryption code, which would put all iPhones at risk. If a phone requires biometrics, law enforcement can compel the user to open it, but they can’t ask for the password without violating the 5A right against self incrimination 3/
BREAKING: THE BURIED LEDE: THREAD: So this is a story about a Roger Stone aide named Jason Sullivan telling a group of donald supporters to "descend on the Capitol" on 1/6. Yes, that's big news, but there's more here. 1/ nytimes.com/2022/04/12/us/…
The person who recorded the call is Staci Burk, and she gave the recording to the 1/6 committee months ago. Here's the buried lede: Burk is one of Sidney Powell's kraken lawsuit "voter fraud" witnesses. DoJ has been investigating Powell since SEPTEMBER. 2/ cnn.com/2022/01/21/pol…
Additionally, at least a dozen of the false electors that signed forged certificates were plaintiffs in Sidney Powell AND 1st Amendment Praetorian lawsuits, and we also know the DoJ is investigating the false slates of electors. 3/ thehill.com/policy/nationa…
