Although the Conservatives have lost more than 100 seats in the local elections, this does not translate into total triumph for Labour, Sky News analysis shows.

Here’s the story of the #LocalElections2022 so far in charts 👇🗳

🔵Tory losses were felt most heavily in the south of England, in areas which were largely won by the 🟡 Lib Dems and other parties, most notably the 🟢 Greens.

🔴 Labour made ground in the East, but lost vote share in every other part of England apart from London Image
↗ This graph shows the significance of Labour’s win in Wandsworth, which had been in Tory hands since 1978.

🔴 Labour's victory there reflects its increasing electoral dominance in the capital - where it also won Barnet and Westminster

From night ambushes on quad bikes and attacks with drones to the deliberate sabotage of road and railway bridges, Ukrainian forces have repeatedly thwarted Russia's war plans.

Sky’s Deborah Haynes looks at how Russia's invasion was held back 👇
One of Russia's first targets of the invasion was a border guard post close to Ukraine's border in the north with Belarus.

Major Artem Lazutin, said a drone dropped explosives on a group of tents where border guards had been sleeping, injuring seven of them
So the guards took up defensive positions next to a major motorway bridge and a railway bridge, both leading to Belarus across the Dnipro River.

'That afternoon, working with the military, we blew up the bridges to prevent any Russian vehicles from being able to cross' Image

“Even though it is hard... everything will be alright."

This war is tearing families apart, stripping them of control and certainty, writes Sky’s @kvittozzi, as she witnesses a father saying goodbye to his son before joining the war
Marko, who recently underwent surgery for a brain tumour, was all smiles before realising that his dad was about to leave.

"He's okay as long as daddy is here," mum Ivanka says, glancing nervously at him. "But we don't know how he will be later" Image

Today, national insurance is going up by 1.25 percentage points, at a time when the cost of living is rising.

The rise is a significant change to our tax system - but what will it mean for you?

There are a few changes that need to be considered.

trib.al/SuE5Uup
The national insurance rise means everything you earn over the tax-free threshold was being taxed at 12% and will now be taxed at 13.25%.

It might sound small in percentage terms, but it's actually a big tax rise.
For example if you earn £27,000 a year, you would have been paying around £2,053 in national insurance annually but that will now go up by over £200.

Across the whole economy, this amounts to an £11bn tax increase for the government.

Tens of thousands of people are missing out on early cancer diagnosis every year, and are more likely to die as a result.

England hasn’t met the NHS waiting times target once since 2014, and things got worse during the pandemic.
In January, almost 40% of patients starting treatment had been waiting more than two months since first getting an urgent referral from their GP - the target is 15%.
Only two local NHS areas met the target, out of the 107 who provided data - Calderdale in West Yorkshire, and Bolton.

In Manchester, Birmingham and Thurrock in Essex, more than two in every three patients had been waiting more than two months.
