Here’s why I think that’s the wrong question, and what questions you should be trying to answer instead …
🧵👇🏼
For starters, I’m sorry to break it to you but there aren’t any magical #niches out there that are going to guarantee your success.
And no offense, but if there were I definitely wouldn’t share it 😂
When you’re trying to figure out what niche to write about, start by writing down a list of anything and EVERYTHING you’re interested in and/or have SOME knowledge about.
Don’t hold back, write it all down.
The question then becomes, “what’s a topic I have some interest and/or some knowledge about that I could write about for the next 2 years”.
The problem with ME telling you a niche is you’re unlikely to succeed.
Here’s why…
Let’s say I told you “aeronautics” is THE niche to enter. It’s low competition, tons of volume!
I don’t know about you, but there is no way in hell I could get excited to write about air travel.
I’d probably last 3 months before losing all interest and then I’d quit.
And therein lies the problem.
Your first site is hard! It takes a ton of time and effort. It’s a grind.
You NEED (imo) a topic that excites you, at least a little.
And if it excites you AND you have some knowledge about it, even better!
Once you have a list of “niche” ideas for your site, the next questions you need to answer are:
-How competitive is this niche?
-Does this niche get enough traffic?
The best way I know how to answer both these questions is actually doing keyword research for a few hours!
That will help you understand what kind of keywords are out there that you can win and if those keywords get any traffic.
Yes, this can be quite a bit of work upfront, but picking the RIGHT niche is what sets you up for success.
You’re going to be working on this site for a TON of hours over the next few years, so why wouldn’t you spend a good amount of time upfront to get it right?
And if you’re not willing to put in the time to find the right niche for your new site, do you really think you’ll be willing to put in all the hours necessary to build a successful blog?
