If you can't sit through all of #GoogleIO this week, I'm going to be doing a recap of all the Android-related news over at the @Esperdev blog. It's going to be in the style of my Android 13 deep dive, which means it's going to VERY long and exhaustive.
Look forward to that!
I have a total of 50 keynotes + sessions marked on a spreadsheet of things I plan to watch.
Send help.
By the way, I don't plan to cover new features in Google apps or focus on any new products they launch. I'm only interested in new features in the Android platform, new tools for Android app developers, etc.
If you want that stuff, there are plenty of other sources to read!
Not live tweeting everything from I/O either, cause I'm focusing on my coverage. Sorry!

Haven't encountered the animation itself yet, though.
The setting to show an icon in the status bar when vibrate mode is on has been added in Beta 2. Google inexplicably removed this icon in Android 12 but added it back via this same toggle in QPR3 Beta 3.
Android 13 Beta builds will be available from the following OEMs
"Now, Android will go further and automatically delete your clipboard history after a short period so apps are preemptively blocked from seeing old copied information."
Google confirms the clipboard autoclear feature I first reported about.
There's no doubt we'll see new #Android13 features at #GoogleIO in a few hours, but there's no need to wait for the keynote — I just updated my Android 13 deep dive article with 10 new sections, covering some pretty big changes!
In order to access body sensors (like heart rate, temperature, or blood oxygen levels) in the background, apps have to hold a new permission called BODY_SENSORS_BACKGROUND: blog.esper.io/android-13-dee…
The Android Beta Program website just got updated to mention the Android 13 Beta👀
Eligible devices include the Pixel 4 and later.
I don't see any OTA/factory images yet though!
Google's running two beta programs simultaneously: the Android 13 Beta and the Android 12 QPR Beta. The Android 12 QPR beta ends in June 2022, while the Android 13 beta ends in June 2023. The beta will extend past the stable release to account for 13 QPRs.
LineageOS 19 based on Android 12 is here 👀! The changelog 26 post is live on lineageos.org, where you can read all the details about the release and find the list of supported devices. If you're reading this, you're probably looking for a summary. Here's what's new:
- Security patches from the last year have been merged to LOS 16 - 19.
- LOS 19 builds are based on the android-12.1.0_r4 tag, which is based on Android 12.1/Android 12L. That means Material You's dynamic color theming (monet) is included!
(As an aside, the reason it's called LineageOS 19 and not 19.1 is because the team wants to match AOSP's versioning conventions.)
