Today, the House took historic action paving the way for Congressional staffers to choose to join together in a union. By empowering staffers to advocate for themselves and each other, we take an important step to ensure the House is best able to serve the American people.
The Congress has long been strengthened by the skill, dedication and patriotism of our hard-working staffers, who enable us to fulfill our legislative and constituent responsibilities.
Last week, I was proud to announce that the House will set its first-ever pay floor, establishing a minimum annual salary of $45,000. We have also increased the maximum rate of pay, an essential strategy to retain and recruit the nation’s top talent.
These new steps build on the actions that I have been proud to take as Speaker to strengthen and diversify our Capitol Hill workforce, including establishing @DiverseCongress to help open the doors to public service for underrepresented communities.

Today, Senate Republicans lined up in lockstep behind Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump to vote to rip away the Constitutional right to health freedom from American women across the nation.
While Democrats are fighting to enshrine Roe v. Wade into law, Republicans mobilize around a dangerous & extremist agenda: seeking not only to criminalize abortion but also many other basic forms of reproductive care, including in vitro fertilization & post-miscarriage care.
And make no mistake: once Republicans eviscerate long-standing precedent and privacy rights with the Roe ruling, they intend to wage an all-out assault on more of our rights – including access to contraception and marriage equality.

In October, the House voted on a strong bipartisan basis to hold Steve Bannon in contempt for defying a legitimate Congressional subpoena. This vote upheld the genius of our Constitution: the separation of powers, which safeguards the Congress’ authority to conduct oversight.
The Department of Justice is to be commended for moving to hold Bannon accountable for his blatant defiance of a lawful subpoena. Now, Bannon is seeking to dismiss the case, claiming that the @January6thCmte does not have standing to compel his testimony.
As the House’s amicus brief makes crystal clear, the subpoena of Steve Bannon issued by the Select Committee is legally valid, urgently needed and must be enforced. Bannon is a key witness to the January 6thInsurrection, who holds information central to the House investigation.

Today, Americans join in celebrating one of the greatest political achievements of the 20th Century.  Seventy-four years ago, the establishment of Israel in the Jewish people’s biblical homeland lit a beacon of hope for millions following the horrors of World War II.
In the decades since its founding, Israel’s rich culture & thriving economy have flourished amid existential challenges. The United States takes great pride in our ironclad bond with Israel, cemented minutes after its founding and rooted in both mutual security and shared values.
In February, I had the privilege of leading a Congressional Delegation to Jerusalem, where we met with Israeli leaders and made clear our commitment to the U.S.-Israel relationship.

This draft decision is a sweeping & severe restriction of Americans’ rights. With it, Trump, McConnell & Republicans assault privacy, precedent & the Constitution. By striking down Roe v. Wade, the Court would pave the way for Republicans to obliterate even more of our freedoms.
As drafted, Justice Alito’s argument — that women are not entitled to basic human rights today because they have been denied those rights for generations — is alarming and extremist. It offers a dangerous blueprint for future assaults on some of our most cherished rights.
By eviscerating women’s fundamental freedom to full reproductive care, radical Republican-appointed Justices are poised to inflict unthinkable suffering on tens of millions of families across our country, especially in communities of color and low-income communities.
