The @newsclickin report points at the arbitrary processes by the #MP government in pushing Aditya Birla Group's #diamondmining project in the dense forests of Buxwaha which has the potential to severely devastate the entire landscape. 1/n

A short thread
newsclick.in/Why-Madhya-Pra…
"An expert body under the #MoEF & CC has questioned the #MadhyaPradesh government for proposing to clear forestland for the project without considering the potential impact on water availability in the drought-prone region."
An excerpt from the report, 2/n
"The project involves diversion of the course of a stream and creation of a water body, which may adversely affect the watershed and the flow of water downstream, thereby affecting the biodiversity as well as the effectiveness of the Ken-Betwa link project." The river-link... 3/n
project is itself questionable for its widescale impact on ecology of the whole region. As the debate was taking place, the MP government has "sent a proposal to the Central government seeking prior approval to clear 382.131 hectares of forestland for #diamondmining project." 4/n
"The project involves chopping down roughly 2.16 lakh trees, was thereafter also recommended for clearance by the regional office of the MoEF&CC in Bhopal, MP, in July 2021... the project will also use more than 200 hectares of forestland for dumping mining generated waste." 5/n
"Experts believe that diverting a large chunk of forestland, as envisaged for the #diamondmining project, would severely deplete groundwater levels in the region besides affecting rainfall patterns."
Interesting to note, the bid had been floated by the short-lived Congress. 6/n
government in MP. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), a statutory body engaged in the conservation of the tiger has stated clearly about its views which doubts the project in its entirety, also being wary of the Ken-Betwa linking project. 7/n

Lakhs of tribal people across 26 blocks in the Baridpada district have been suffering losses in the last two years due to Covid restrictions. They earn a livelihood by collecting mahua flowers, but are unaware of procurement provisions by the government. 2/4
"At least 14 ITDA procuring units were set up in Mayurbhanj and nearly 30 SHG groups engaged to procure MFP under the #VanDhanVikasYojana. The concerned SHGs reportedly do not cover remote pockets leaving out a large number of tribals from the ambit of government benefits." 3/4

Is the @FinMinIndia aware that CAMPA plantations have destroyed livelihoods of tribals in the past? Is it aware that CAF act allows illegal transfer of CA funds to the forest department?@PIB_India @ShashiTharoor @Jairam_Ramesh #Covid_19lockdown #CovidAndForestRights #RepealCampa
The CAF Act violates FRA, PESA. Tribals can get employment and livelihoods only when CAMPA funds are transferred to the Gram Sabhas #RepealCAMPA #CovidAndForestRights @PIB_India @ShashiTharoor @AdivasisMatter @HansrajMeena #AtmaNirbharBharatAbhiyan @TribalStuff @VijooKrishnan
Not only the opposition-the @INCIndia , but the rules are also under fire from the @TribalAffairsIn. In a letter to the MoEFCC in March 2018, the MoTA had argued that the draft CAF rules dilute the provisions of the FRA.

What @PrakashJavdekar is saying that the amendments were an unofficial exercise cooked up by forest bureaucrats and some non-government org. like @WWFINDIA - and this unofficial draft was circulated to state governments
news18.com/news/india/gov… @MundaArjun @narendramodi
@PrakashJavdekar @WWFINDIA @MundaArjun @narendramodi The provision in the amendment which invited criticism was the one which allowed "forest officials to use arms against people to prevent forest offence." So a cabal of forest officers and NGOs circulate draft of a law allowing officers to shoot tribal and completely subverts FRA
@PrakashJavdekar @WWFINDIA @MundaArjun @narendramodi And send it to state governments unofficially - Question is @PrakashJavdekar ji - have you taken action against the respective officers and NGOs who have violated your trust and tried to carry out a legislative coup under your nose @nit_set @journomayank @LouDelBello @NihaMasih
