This bill is horrific. The republican backed HB 1878 completely guts Missouri elections and blatantly disenfranchises our Black communities. There's a special place in history books (among other places) for folks who vote for bills like this. #MoLeg #HB1878
Here is a sample of what #MoLeg #HB1878 will do. Intentionally making it more difficult for folks to vote, combined with outrageously gerrymandered maps, is the absolute only way the MO GOP can win.
It’s not lost on me that at the same moment the MO House republicans are trying to strip voting rights, the MO Senate republicans on the other side of the building are trying to pass horribly gerrymandered maps. This is their last ditch effort to retain power. #MoLeg #MoSen
On the House side, with 10+ House Dems waiting their turn to speak on #HB1878 (which would directly impact their districts) the MO GOP cut off debate. Missouri republicans know how awful this bill is. They refuse to let Dems even speak on it. #MoLeg
Right before our eyes, in plain daylight for everyone to see, the MO GOP killed what shred of democracy we had left in Missouri in passing #HB1878. This is an indescribably dark day. #MoLeg

Thanks to @piper4missouri for pointing out that by law, women in Missouri can’t divorce their abusive partners while pregnant. Throw in the fact that 1 year ago today, the MO GOP decided that these abusers can keep their guns. #MoLeg Image
Making matters even worse, studies have shown that pregnant people in the US die more frequently of homicide (mostly by their partner) than from pregnancy-related causes. tinyurl.com/mr3ykcpf Image
We also need to discuss the disproportionate rates of maternal mortality in Black women. A report from the MO DHSS showed that Black women in MO died during pregnancy/within 1 year of pregnancy, at 4 times the rate of white women. tinyurl.com/4eme76p9

Right off the bat, Sen Scott says the quiet part out loud. He says that we need to completely eliminate the federal education department. He states that all federal $ (meant for education) should go directly to families, not schools. When we say they want to defund schools… Image

This entire 🧵. This is what happens with a Republican supermajority. Senate R’s, primarily Bob Onder, Bill Eigel, and Mike Moon have held up legislation for 4+ months with petty grievances. Less than 2 days left & they’re still at it. This is a nonfunctional govt. #MoSen #MoLeg

1/Amy Krebs (changed fb name to Amelia HK) is one of the more vile parents against equity in Rockwood. When I oppose book banning/limiting kid’s learning, I’m called pro-rape/incest/molestation.

Speaking as someone who was brutally raped at 16, those accusations hit different
2/ It’s sad when people like Amy Krebs throw these words around w/o a second thought. I suppose it’s safe to assume that she’s never been sexually assaulted w/ a loaded gun held to her head. People need to be willing to see the world beyond the tip of their nose. (Also Krebs👇🏻)
3/ That’s why we’re in this awful position. Equity in education benefits ALL children. Parents have to be willing to look beyond their small world. Dismissing death threats that Black administrators have received is inexcusable.
