/3 The fact that we have no wide urban transit system is abhorrent. We dedicate nearly all transportation to personal vehicles, leaving a large chunk of the population venerable to small fluctuations in #gasprices. Also with no alternative option, it's own a car or poverty.
Seriously, it is 'own a car or have limited social and economic mobility'
5/ So one has to ask, why don't we have a coordinated pubic transit system from @torbaynl to @townofholyrood. Most metros have park-n-rides, rail, etc.
With all the tax from gas, we gotta start somewhere. It doesn't need to be everything at once, but it's gotta be something...
6/ Our design specs and devregs are completely car focused. There is nothing in there for:
It is all for personal vehicles. Any project is a one off.
7/ Every roundabout, painted bike gutter, accessible cross walk, traffic calming etc is a one-off. It takes months, of not years to study, query, public consult etc to MAYBE approve. These are engineering / urban planning objectives. Do what's best: give alternate transit options
8/ Our @GovNL's engineering within @TI_GovNL and @DGS_GovNL control a spec that our non city municipality's follow. Those bodies and our cities need to update their specs to future proof our standards. Hard to have public transit when the core mantra actively resists it.
9/ Anyway time to get emailing if you want any real transportation freedom to choice.

1/ The @CityofStJohns tells me I am to engage in vehiclular cycling. Cool: I got an #ebike and I ride in traffic. Cool: I've had cars zoom passed me at lethal velocities because there is no real bike infrastructure. But... How do I trigger traffic lights?
2/ I've been patiently waiting on the vehicle magnetic sensor with nothing happening and cars behind me. Sorry #nltraffic cars but I literally cannot trigger the light.
Why don't people cycle? It's not the rain eh @kerriclaireneil. It's not the wind eh @BicycleNL. It's the cars
3/ The sooner we can convert wasted on street parking (aside from downtown) and convert those to at a MINIMUM painted enforced bike gutters the better.
Pedestrians and cyclists don't match easily. For a casual ride sure but not for commuting.
