U.N.believable: 🇨🇳 China gave $200,000 to 🇺🇳 U.N. human rights envoy Alena Douhan to help the regime whitewash their ethnic cleansing of the Uyghurs.

Tomorrow Douhan wraps up a propaganda visit to Iran.

We are calling on @USAmbUN to condemn this cynical abuse of the UN.

🧵:
1/ According to information buried at p.50 of this 83-page UN filing (undocs.org/A/HRC/49/82/AD…), the UNHRC's @AlenaDouhan—the Special Rapporteur on “the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures,” the dictators' term for Western sanctions— received $200,000 from #China.
2/ In exchange, Douhan lent the imprimatur of her United Nations Human Rights Council mandate for the most extreme forms of Chinese disinformation, including this official regime-sponsored propaganda event covering up Beijing's persecution of the Uyghurs.
3/ In December, after she took China's $200,000, @AlenaDouhan suddenly appeared at this Chinese regime event, lending U.N. legitimacy to a series of propaganda videos & speeches that covered up the herding of 1 million Uyghurs into camps, falsely portraying Xinjiang as a utopia.
4/ This was the most extreme propaganda event that the UNHRC's Douhan has performed so far in helping China get away with persecuting millions of Uyghurs, but it's hardly the first. In September, she was the lead speaker at a Chinese-sponsored event against Western sanctions:
5/ China sponsored this UN Human Rights Council event with Belarus, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Zimbabwe. Interestingly, Douhan works for the Lukashenko regime's Belarus State University; has already visited Venezuela and Zimbabwe; and is today in Iran.
6/ China is investing huge sums of money to corrupt Alena Douhan's UN human rights office because in March the US, EU, UK & Canada announced sanctions on China for committing genocide against the Uyghurs. They want her UN title to label sanctions a crime.
verfassungsblog.de/sanctioning-th…
7/ On June 3, 2021, Douhan legitimized a third propaganda event on Western sanctions co-sponsored last year by China, together with Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Iran, Nicaragua, Russia, Syria, Venezuela and Zimbabwe.

ohchr.org/sites/default/…

media.un.org/en/asset/k1o/k…
8/ That a UN human rights envoy is helping brutal dictators in China, Iran, Syria, Venezuela & Zimbabwe to get away with murder is appalling. That Human Rights Watch official Peggy Hicks—who goes back and forth with the UNHRC—legitimizes it is inexcusable.

BREAKING: U.N. list shows Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to address U.N. Human Rights Council with Antonio Guterres on Feb. 23.

@antonioguterres, if you don't disinvite this mass murderer, we will be calling on Swiss police to have him arrested for crimes against humanity. Image

Horrible: “UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has congratulated Iran on the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in a message to President Masoud Pezeshkian.”
en.irna.ir/news/86075281/…Image
@antonioguterres We are calling on the UN to release this shameful letter of congratulations to the Islamic Regime. It was reported in Iranian regime media but everything about the story sounds authentic, and in line with your past approach. The world needs to know the truth.

UN free speech envoy Irene Khan never visited regimes that persecute dissenters like China, Russia, Iran or Cuba.

Instead, she just went to inspect...Germany. Her primary concern? They “restrict Palestinian advocacy.”

Radical anti-Western ideologues are destroying human rights.
2/ Irene Khan was chosen for her UN post by a Beijing-led panel. I wrote an article about the scandal: newsweek.com/china-free-spe…

3/ Irene Khan has repeatedly showered praise upon the Chinese regime and its Belt and Road Initiative, one of the factors fueling the persecution of Uighurs. Image

U.N. Human Rights Council “Shamed Into Acting” on Iran, but Deadly Delay Continues
After we called out their inaction for 22 days, the UNHRC is finally slated to meet on Iran's mass murder. Yet shamefully, not until Jan. 23rd. The deadly delay continues.
unwatch.org/un-watch-welco…
For 22 days, the UN’s top human rights body has stood silent as Iran’s Islamic regime unleashed a brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters, resulting in thousands of deaths, arbitrary arrests, and widespread torture. /2
Our relentless campaign—exposing the UNHRC’s zero resolutions & utter inaction—has finally forced the Council to convene this critical meeting. This is a victory for the brave Iranian people and for human rights advocates worldwide who refused to let the UN look the other way. /3

FINALLY: After 21 days of our shaming the UNHRC for ignoring mass murder in Iran, Germany & UK have requested an urgent session on “alarming violence, crackdowns on protesters and violations of international human rights law.” Yet absurdly, likely won’t meet before next Friday.
2/ The request was by the “Core Group” that led UNHRC's 2025 resolution on Iran: UK, Germany, Iceland, Moldova & N. Macedonia.

On Monday they need 1/3 of UNHRC members to back the request, being 16 states.

I predict they'll get:
1. France
2. Iceland
3. Italy
4. Netherlands
5. Spain
6. Switzerland
7. Albania
8. Bulgaria
9. Czechia
10. Estonia
11. North Macedonia
12. Slovenia
13. Cyprus
14. Japan
15. Marshall Islands
16. Bolivia
3/ We ran a 21-day campaign to shame the UN Human Rights Council for ignoring the mass murder in Iran, and to pressure them to finally hold a special session:

BREAKING: Cross-regional coalition of 30 NGOs is demanding urgent UN emergency action to stop the mass killing of Iranian protesters.

Over 12,000 reportedly killed since Dec. 28. Silence now would mean complicity. The UN must act—now.
#UrgentUNSessionIranunwatch.org/global-coaliti…
2/ In a joint letter addressed to UN chief António Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, and UN Member States, the coalition warned that Iran’s violent crackdown has resulted in grave, widespread, and systematic violations of international human rights law.
3/ According to credible reports cited by the coalition, more than 12,000 protesters have been killed by Iranian security forces in recent weeks, with many more injured, arbitrarily detained, tortured, or forcibly disappeared.
