MP: You asked me “why I need to look at patients. from multiple angles, isn’t that waste of energy?”
IM: Yes doc, it’s been bothering me, the math didn’t help me much.
MP: That’s why when I was visiting @SaguaroNPS & saw so many varieties of 🌵, it dawned on me how to tell
1/
IM: Go ahead doc, how?
Don’t waste my time.
I have “X-rays to take places to go”
IM: Ok, I see it
MP: how many arms this giant cactus has?
IM: I see 5 arms
MP: Ok, now see attached set of 3 images taken from different directions
IM: Hey doc, r u trying to fool me. These have more arms?
MP: No, it is just that same plant is seen from 3 different directions 3/
MP: That’s why, if you want to see anything inside a patient without cutting them. We ask you to take pictures from different directions & people like us reconstruct image.
IM: it makes so much sense doc, seeing the same plant from just 3 angles, I could count the total arms.
4/
IM: Clever doc, not bad for a physicist to explain me with photos of #cactus plant. No wonder u guys are called “nerds”
MP: Why are u reminding me of my high school days
IM: I was just kidding doc. Thanks for explaining me in simple terms. Glad you visited @SaguaroNPS
7 am: Surgical corridor: Medical Physicist walking by the O-arm resting place
O-arm: Doc, do you know what day it is?
MP: It’s 4th of May, why?
1/
O-arm: Doc, remember when I came here, you used to call me, “R2-D2”. I loved it. It gave a me so pride among the other c-arms who can only operate in fluoroscopy mode.
MP: That’s true, I do remember calling you “R2-D2”. Do you know why?
O-arm: Why doc?
2/
MP: You have dual capability, you “Radiate in 2 modes & Detect in 2 modes”, hence R2-D2. What I mean is you can operate as a fluoroscopy unit and also as CBCT.
O-arm: Thanks doc. I need to brag with my buddies. BTW, May the Force be with You!

CT Patient positioning plays key role in radiation dose reduction - good article
"It is successful teamwork between technologists, radiologists & medical physicists that allows good image quality & dose reduction in imaging"
Miscentering affects dose & image quality
i. Effect on dose: 4 cm mag increases dose by 67%
vertical shifts impact organ dose, breast, skin, etc
ii. Effect on image quality: Miscentering of 2.1 cm increased image noise by 6%
Tips:
a. The tube should be positioned at the top of the gantry, rather than at the bottom, to avoid offsets below the isocenter
b. Both AP and lateral (LAT) topograms should be used with the lowest acceptable tube current & tube voltage settings

Strategies to mitigate the despair & speak recovery: 1. Be a detective: You may never get a full explanation, but u need to find out (legitimately) whatever details u can about why ur application was rejected
2. Reassess ur institutional commitment:Will this disappointment be fatal-either to ur career or to ur feelings for institution?...will U be ok, if you remain an associate professor for the rest of ur academic life. If so reaffirm elements of ur job that U love & focus on them
2/
3. Expand your spheres of influence: Maybe one reason your application failed was that U weren’t perceived as well known in Ur field. Time to become more active in Ur discipline's professional organizations. Networking if key.

6 am: Surgical corridor: Medical Physicist stops by the O-arm resting place
Medical Physicist (MP): Hi buddy! I got a call from the surgeon telling me that you are not behaving properly.
O-arm: What are you talking about doc?
1/
MP: Look here, this what I am talking – what is this black hole?
O-arm: About that – well why y’all treat me like a stepchild when compared to my buddy MDCT*?
MP: Why do you say that?
*MultiDetector Computed Tomography
2/
O-arm: Doc, reason for that black hole is simple. No one does calibration on me routinely. I know everyday, techs do air-calibration for MDCT but not for me.
MP: So, it’s that simple – I thought you were misbehaving because someone broke your jaw. Remember, we fixed your jaw
