Very classical moment for Lex as he interacts with Kryptonian technology and try to unlock all its power and knowledge. Love this small scene and Jesse Eisenberg acting nails so much Lex’s fears but also hunger for knowledge and power. ImageImageImage
Of course, this happens several times across different media (comics, TV shows, movies) in Superman stories. Wanted to share three of those that I thought had some significance. We start with the first time ever Lex uses Kryptonian tech in the comics in Superman #74 (from 1951). ImageImageImage
Then, we also have Lex in Birthright #8 and #12 Lex creates a technology to interact with Kryptonian images in the past. Want to include this reference as Birthright is an important inspiration for Lex in #BvS. ImageImageImage
And finally, wanted to share that the last time Lex Luthor appeared in a live action movie he also interacted with Kryptonian technology (with the crystals) in Superman Returns. Lex does like to interact with Kryptonian tech it seems! ImageImage

This scene has many references. Several of them to the storyline in Funeral for a Friend. And then several others to different pieces of DC media/comics. So today, I’ll cover these latter types of references and next week I’ll close out with the Funeral for a Friend ones.
So, let’s start with these peppered DC references. First, we can see similarities in Superman’s funeral to the Comedian funeral in Watchmen. This is not too surprising since Zack Snyder was behind the camera in both. ImageImage

This scene (and the next ones, ups spoilers) homage several parts of the continuation to The Death of Superman storyline in comics which was called Funeral for a Friend, an 8 issue storyline across different comics. Image
However, the first reference in this scene is not to this storyline, but to All Star Superman #5 with Lex in prison with the orange suit and a classical look after being shaved. ImageImage
