Actually, there is something we can do. Every person who works in a school building should stop coming to work. Every single one. All across the country. Stall the economy and demand sensible gun laws. Until they pass, we don't work.
Reminder to all: I do not debate with people who won't do anything to protect our children. I will block. I don't care about your opinion. Children keep dying. Teachers keep dying. Enough is enough.
There shouldn't be a debate about ANY of this. CHILDREN ARE BEING MURDERED IN THEIR SCHOOLS! Has everyone just completely lost it? FIX this. NOW. Do SOMETHING. ANYTHING. #nomore
How do we just keep living like this? How is this still happening?
I am devastated. This cannot continue.
This is not an overreaction. We should all be against this. This isn't humanity. We are a monster.
Look how simple:
And before anyone says "kids already lost so much cause of COVID," let me stop you. I'd rather have a child who is alive than a child who knows how to analyze Romeo and Juliet.
Seeing a lot of anger from people about this. It's okay, you don't have to agree that murdering children in schools is wrong. And also remember, there's always the option to keep scrolling. 👌🏻
For those unfamiliar with Title IX: Discrimination on the basis of sex is prohibited by Title IX...This includes discrimination based on...sex stereotypes (such as treating persons differently because they do not conform to sex-role expectations...)
The @CBSDSchools started its behind-the-scenes crusade against LGBTQIA students. The district quietly has done the following 🧵:
1. As I mentioned earlier this week, allegedly, the superintendent has asked several teachers to remove Pride flags from their classrooms.
The directive came verbally, since administrators and SB members are no longer communicating via email due to the number of RTKs far-right groups have requested in the past. Now that the far-right has found its home on our SB, they don't want records of their agenda.
2. A strong advocate for LGBTQIA students has been suspended after he provided students a number they can call if they feel like they need someone to talk to. Students have started a petition to reinstate the teacher. See student petition here: change.org/p/re-instate-m…
I've been asked often why teachers are fleeing from the classroom and while I can't speak for all teachers, many of our reasons appear to be universal. A thread. 🧵
Teachers are leaving education for many reasons. Prior to the pandemic, the system was already very much broken, but teachers were able to hold all the pieces together, often at the expense of their own families, their own mental health, and their own personal lives.
Teaching was martyrdom for the greater societal good. In some ways, teachers understood this.
Then, the pandemic forced teachers to pivot. Every day. Every minute. Without much notice.
Here's the letter the @CBSDSchools sent to its families today. If you need a quick reminder of what CBSD turned into, look no further than this piece: phillymag.com/news/2021/12/1…
This 🧵 will break down this abomination of a school communication.
"...an argument could be made that socialization and in-person learning outweigh the risk of transmission..."
Can it though? I can make an argument that students' mental health also suffers when their parents/teachers die.
I can make an argument that students' mental health suffers when they are stuck in an auditorium all day, every day because most of their teachers are out sick. Also, its own School Board voted against mental health screeners and inclusive workshops for teachers.
