some data viz books not (yet!) on @storywithdata's shelves that are worth your attention:

1/n: favorite pre-digital titles that impact my practice today
2/n: more recent favorite books I pull off the shelves a lot
3/n: none of the below predigital data viz books are famous. Some are obscure, some are weird. They are often inspiring in unique or quirky ways. They are ALL really interesting.

I make bar charts for a living during the week & for fun on the weekends.

📊 Bar chart emoji are all innately offensive. Here is a thread rating them all.
@Emojipedia Before specific ratings, let's look at some general trends.

What STORY does each 📊 seem to tell? We like to read time left to right and associate up with positivity. That orientation yields different mini-narratives:
@Emojipedia The next general trend is COLOR.

Categorical color palettes dominate. Salient red is strewn about with abandon. Green-Red-Blue combo (in that order) is most popular.

Watch this GIF to see how too many palettes do not work for common color deficiencies:

Notre Dame de Paris's spatial-temporal secrets & meaning underly 📖INFO WE TRUST's climax.

Here's a a thread with mine and other #NotreDame diagrams:
INFO WE TRUST's climax concerns the orientation of French Gothic cathedrals. This story is intro'd with Notre Dame de Paris:
I consulted many fine diagrams during my prep.

The most outstanding may be Stephen Biesty's masterpiece in 📖THE STORY OF BUILDINGS
