NEW: Governor Charlie Baker vetos drivers license bill that would allow those without legal documentation to obtain said license. Baker expressed his concerns about the bill in the past. House and Senate have the votes to override the veto. #mapoli
*vetoes
In a letter, baker says that the RMV “does not have the expertise or ability to verify the validity of many types of documents from other countries.” And says he worries about how it could it could lead people to be erroneously registered to vote in Massachusetts.
Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin has gone on record refuting Baker’s claim. Per @AlisonKuznitz, Galvin predicted today that Baker would veto the bill.

FUN THREAD: The Peanuts as voters:
CHARLIE BROWN:
The ultimate swing voter. Doesn’t pay attention to the election at all and gets pushed around by hardcore partisans. Always voted for the losing candidate in each election
LINUS:
Linus is the old school democrat. Loves unions, heavily religious, adaptable to some change but not all, not thrilled about the direction of the party. Voted Obama Trump Biden, soft national security based voter (blanket)
LUCY:
HUGE Hilldawg stan, posts donation links on twitter. ALWAYS fussy about the state of the Senate Democrats, tweeting on every failed reconciliation: “YOU BLOCKHEAD CHARLIE SCHUMER!”
One thing I’m curious as to wether journalists ask elected officials (regardless of party) is: “when you say we have to focus on mental health, what exactly do you mean?”
To say: “oh we gotta focus on mental health” is a pretty big deal if you’re an elected official! In Massachusetts, polls conducted by @MassINC have shown that there ARE children who are feeling burnt out by traumatic events on a macro and micro level.
Granted, there was one former elected official who gave an answer: Donald Trump at the NRA convention who said that basically: the way to focus on mental health is lock those who he or others would consider (CONSIDER, NOT DIAGNOSED) as mentally disturbed in an asylum.
I know a lot of folks like to observe Cruz/Cornyn as the “polar opposite” of how to address or approach gun safety across the aisle, but I think a cooler challenge would be to do an article on Cassidy/Kennedy. CC: @WinWithJMC@JMilesColeman
Now granted both have similar stances on guns: in fact Cassidy had his feral pig clip this week. But similar to Cruz/Cornyn, one seems to see worth in bipartisanship (even if not likely) while the other says: “no, bipartisan attempts aren’t going to help me politically.”
In some ways: there’s also a component of that in other senate duos. Massachusetts for example has Warren, who while a liberal firebrand, has found common ground on some items with Daines and even says if a bipartisan solution exists then let’s do it.
According to Wikipedia: “A red flag law is a gun control law that permits police or family members to petition a state court to order the temporary removal of firearms from a person who may present a danger to others or themselves.” 2/7
“A judge makes the determination to issue the order based on statements and actions made by the gun owner in question.Refusal to comply with the order is punishable as a criminal offense.” 3/7
It’s funny how folks on conservative media go after New York, California and Chicago/Illinois but are not interested in taking on the ol’ punching bag again.
Guess no one finds white Irish Catholics “scary” anymore.
