CT: Doc, what else can I do. I am ready to go round & round our patients, however, it pains me when tech had to turn away a patient who needed me to scan w contrast for her abdominal pain
1/
MP: Are u talking about #iodinecontrast shortage that is causing all these postponements or cancelations?
CT: Yes doc, as u know some diagnoses do require Iodine contrast, so that I can highlight diseases. BTW, I wonder, why u guys have not found other contrast agents yet?
2/
MP: Well there is considerable research going on to find other contrast agents. Probably this shortage may shine some light on other possible agents.
CT: Didn’t I hear once @RSNA that ‘milk’ can serve as an oral-contrast agent?
3/
MP: Yes, I did hear (bit.ly/3lZoj1B), & I wish it was simple. If it had worked like Iodine, we wouldn’t be in this conundrum
CT: BTW doc, I am glad ur society @RadiologyACR has put out recommendations on how to manage available contrast & even talking with @US_FDA
4/
CT: Doc, how long do you think this shortage going to remain?
5/
MP: Well, I hear that by end of this month it should ease out since, one of the vendor’s manufacturing center is reopening.
CT: Well doc, I feel sad that I can’t help that mom who was turned away from CT scan – not because of me but because of Iodine shortage.
6/
MP: Hopefully this will open up more vendors and possibility of new contrast agents. Especially with your new cousin (#PhotonCountingCT), new contrast agents are examined for potential clinical use (bit.ly/3PQB109).
7/
MP: BTW, instead of feeling bad, take this opportunity to rest, because you are always going round and round the patients.
CT: Thanks doc for that comforting suggestion. Have a good evening!
Weekend
Beautiful weather, MP sitting in park working on talks. Notices slight movement in grass & see an ‘Eastern Box Turtle’, staring at him
Conversation between Turtle and MP
Turtle: What are you doing here in my neighborhood doc? Aren’t you supposed go to beaches?
1/
MP: Well, I am not a ‘beach kind of guy’, I am more of ‘park kind of guy’. As weather is great, I thought I would be inspired to finish my talks for the conference.
Turtle: Can I ask you a question? Are you the guy who did CT scan on my cousin from National Aquarium?
2/
3: Not directly, however, I remember being at the CT scanner when your cousin was scanned.
Turtle: He told me that they had difficulty imaging him on an old CT scanner and that is why he went to Hopkins, as you guys have the latest CT scanner, correct?

MP: You asked me “why I need to look at patients. from multiple angles, isn’t that waste of energy?”
IM: Yes doc, it’s been bothering me, the math didn’t help me much.
MP: That’s why when I was visiting @SaguaroNPS & saw so many varieties of 🌵, it dawned on me how to tell
1/
IM: Go ahead doc, how?
Don’t waste my time.
I have “X-rays to take places to go”
IM: Ok, I see it
MP: how many arms this giant cactus has?
IM: I see 5 arms
MP: Ok, now see attached set of 3 images taken from different directions
IM: Hey doc, r u trying to fool me. These have more arms?

7 am: Surgical corridor: Medical Physicist walking by the O-arm resting place
O-arm: Doc, do you know what day it is?
MP: It’s 4th of May, why?
1/
O-arm: Doc, remember when I came here, you used to call me, “R2-D2”. I loved it. It gave a me so pride among the other c-arms who can only operate in fluoroscopy mode.
MP: That’s true, I do remember calling you “R2-D2”. Do you know why?
O-arm: Why doc?
2/
MP: You have dual capability, you “Radiate in 2 modes & Detect in 2 modes”, hence R2-D2. What I mean is you can operate as a fluoroscopy unit and also as CBCT.
O-arm: Thanks doc. I need to brag with my buddies. BTW, May the Force be with You!
