Tuesday: MP passing by CT, hears a loud sigh!

MP: Hey buddy, why are you sighing!

CT: Doc, what else can I do. I am ready to go round & round our patients, however, it pains me when tech had to turn away a patient who needed me to scan w contrast for her abdominal pain

MP: Are u talking about #iodinecontrast shortage that is causing all these postponements or cancelations?

CT: Yes doc, as u know some diagnoses do require Iodine contrast, so that I can highlight diseases. BTW, I wonder, why u guys have not found other contrast agents yet?

MP: Well there is considerable research going on to find other contrast agents. Probably this shortage may shine some light on other possible agents.

CT: Didn’t I hear once @RSNA that ‘milk’ can serve as an oral-contrast agent?

MP: Yes, I did hear (bit.ly/3lZoj1B), & I wish it was simple. If it had worked like Iodine, we wouldn’t be in this conundrum

CT: BTW doc, I am glad ur society @RadiologyACR has put out recommendations on how to manage available contrast & even talking with @US_FDA

MP: Yes, that is correct, I am proud of @RadiologyACR for the timely statement (bit.ly/3m3IVWy) & also for @radiology_rsna publishing recommendations (bit.ly/3M6CVXA)

CT: Doc, how long do you think this shortage going to remain?

MP: Well, I hear that by end of this month it should ease out since, one of the vendor’s manufacturing center is reopening.

CT: Well doc, I feel sad that I can’t help that mom who was turned away from CT scan – not because of me but because of Iodine shortage.

MP: Hopefully this will open up more vendors and possibility of new contrast agents. Especially with your new cousin (#PhotonCountingCT), new contrast agents are examined for potential clinical use (bit.ly/3PQB109).

MP: BTW, instead of feeling bad, take this opportunity to rest, because you are always going round and round the patients.
