Learnings from #UPSC 2021 Prelims answer key (thread!)
1. In S & T questions, contrary to popular belief that all of the above are correct, many questions were having different answers. So, rather than selecting all of the above blindly, use basic logical reasoning to arrive at a correct answer (if you don't know the exact answer!)
2. Economy - Questions were purely concept based.. Be thorough with the basic concepts in economy.
3. In Ancient and Medieval History questions - if question is too factual and you don't have any idea about it, then it is a better to leave them rather than shooting in the dark. Same applies for the geography questions
4. For polity - questions were directed towards checking your basic understanding of constitution and Indian political system. Focus on Polity NCERTs and Laxmikanth.
5. If questions are too tough or too random, the cutoff will invariably go down.. This year's cutoff is lowest in recent years!
6. Don't be dependent on coaching answer keys. UPSC loves to surprise everyone. So, after prelims, rather than wasting time on checking multiple keys, take 1-2 days break and start preparing for mains in full fledged manner. (5+ questions every year are disputed--> 10 marks +/-)
7. The mantra of 'minimum resources, maximum revisions' is proved to be correct yet another time! Focus on multiple revisions of the static part. No need to loose your sleep over vague and random questions.
