I'm not convinced of this vision, I'm much less bullish on automation than ol' Jimbo. I don't think they're competent enough to automate
But if they are, the psychology is spot-on. A culture that fewer and fewer people can or even want to participate in
The thing that Jim's canny enough to get here is that not only does this system remove people's ability to live a somewhat meaningful economic life
But it's also laying the ground to strip them of the ability to even speak about what's been done to them
First dissolve your culture and its meaning, then your ability to provide a livelihood and have family, then even your ability to express your frustration about being turned into nothing
This *is* what the Regime is fighting towards. Only question is if it can pull it off
The thing that bothers me that's hard to express is that Jim, as a top-tier troll, gets human psychology in a way sociologists can only delude themselves into thinking they get
Him seeing the end of human dignity means more to me than a thousand Harvard studies
This is why I was always opposed to #YangGang, however long ago that was
"You've been permanently socially displaced, but here's $1K/month. I'm sure you'll make art with it lol"
No. It was always just economic opioids. The attempt to replace humanity with money
There's a reason why the policy nerds came up with UBI, not normal people. It's because some of the more far-seeing policy nerds see it as the way to perpetuate their vision, which necessarily involves obsoleting the people who most hate it, and would vote against it
This thread is not very cohesive, but at root is the idea that spirited people—chief among them the best of the trolls—have much, much better instincts about what normal people want than the people presently in charge
Jim's literally dying of cancer but he's still laughing at this shit while he sparks another Camel
That's why I pay attention to his predictions. That's the spirit I want to live around. Not the spirit of the people who want to pay me money as I sit around and wait to die.

The explanation is simple: libertarian values can no longer exist in this period. Liberalism has given up the ghost and handed everything over to progressivism, aka left-wing authoritarianism
Paradoxically, the only possibility for future liberty is right-wing authoritarianism
Fascism never arose out of nowhere. It always emerged as a natural response to a brewing communist revolution within the state, often a monarchy
What we're seeing now is the same process, but within liberal democracy, as it attempts to transition to a new version of communism
If libertarianism is "just leave me alone I want to grill," but the logical political outcome of that stance has resulted in a totalitarian socio-corporate state where you are under constant control, it's fully logical to switch to a position where *some* liberties are preserved
If you can't stop people from destroying themselves, then you're not worthy of leading them, full stop
As leaders then actively hateful to them in practice, indulging their self-destruction rather than correcting it, they will naturally become hateful to you
It's absurd to even have to try to put this in rational terms.
"End the stigma of taking grossly lethal drugs, use the Buddy System! and always have our magical Resurrection Stick at hand!" is *insane*
These people aren't trying to *help* you, they want you in this state
Watched The Northman, good movie, some v. good elements to it. But the reaction to the violence and masculinity seem overdone, wasn't particularly extreme in either
But the director is very good at conjuring up people who exist outside the Liberal Mind, and this disturbs critics
You also see this in his movie The Witch, these characters believe and behave in ways total foreign to the 21st century mind
It's much easier for critics to enjoy it w/o internal conflict because they see this as implicit criticism of their most recent enemy, Christianity
Maybe it is, I don't know what Eggers believes.
But when his unmodern mindset shifts to pagan Scandos, Modern Man finds it a lot harder to immediately identify friend/enemy
There's a part of this vision that is thrilling, but they are also more troubled by it
One of the most basic reasons the Founding Fathers fought for the 2nd Amendment is because they were extremely wary of the new standing armies that could be used to oppress the people
I would say that issue is even more pressing now than when they made it law for themselves
Standing armies have always been extremely expensive. But as commerce and thus state wealth took off in the 17th and 18th centuries, they became more feasible for regents to maintain
Obviously they deployed these armies against enemies external and internal
The US may have by necessity later adopted a standing army as the world became truly international
But if the premise of the 2A was, from the beginning, to check the state army's power vs its citizens, then when the US adopted a standing army, the 2A only becomes *more* critical
Under a progressive information-state, it's vitally important to erase the immediate past
Otherwise it would be deeply confusing to everyone in that state why my dad, his brothers, and all their friends used to take guns to school in their cars, without a single school shooting
These aren't the bygone days of yore we're talking about, like it's the Founding Fathers. It's my *dad*. He's still alive, I could call him up right now
These events aren't caused by guns. They're caused by something else. That we appear to have no interest in understanding
Stuff like this would have been far far more confusing to my parents, because it was so culturally alien despite them all owning guns all over the place
Therefore the cause is not the guns, but the culture: but the culture can't possibly be examined and replaced. Just the guns
It's not a coincidence that Musk is now, after just a few weeks, driving them insane exactly like Trump used to
Their playbook is the same for everyone. But when they try to use it against someone with spirit, it doesn't cow him, it only goads him to turn harder against them
That's a grave threat to the Regime, since it's both inherently broken in the long run and everyone normal hates it
Therefore any escape from leftism becomes an existential threat to it, as it could easily conquer it
Whenever someone displays this instinct to escape this mindset—even when they have no conscious idea they're even escaping, they're just pursuing their instincts—the regime executes the exact same series of attacks
Everyone recognizes these now, there's no need to rehash them
