This thread is on Investing in FGN Savings Bonds with as little as N5,000.
How does high inflation affect you and what should you do? 1/ If you kept N1,000,000 in your savings account without investing in the last year, with inflation at 16.82% -April 2022, savings will be worth N814,000 in real terms signifying a loss of purchasing power of N186,000.
2/ However, If you had invested in a fixed income instrument even at 5% per annum, the loss in purchasing power will be reduced by N50,000.
3/ The focus should be on how to reduce the impact of inflation on your savings by never leaving your money idle, even if the potential return will not completely compensate you for high inflation.
1/ What is FGN Savings Bond?
A savings bond is a government bond/financial instrument used to borrow money from retail investors. It is considered one of the safest investments because they are backed by the full faith & credit of the FG.
2/ Similar to a typical bond, when you buy a savings bond, you're effectively lending your money to the government at a fixed rate of interest, with the government responsible for returning the loan in full plus interest.
