Gun owners usually know that #GunControl laws have their roots firmly planted in #racism. Every last law from the French Black Codes in LA to Saturday Night Special laws to efforts afoot today - ALL are racist and #sexist. What follows is a brief history of Gun Control laws.
Racist gun laws predate the founding of the nation. Those laws were openly stated as a way to keep blacks, free men & slaves, and other POC “in their place.” They were instilled to quiet down the racial fears of whites, especially whites in slave states.
In 1751, the Black Codes in Louisiana allowed whites to stop black people & beat them if they were carrying anything that might be a weapon. If blacks refused to stop on demand, they were authorized to “shoot to kill.” Laws were passed prohibiting blacks from gun possession.
Haiti, 1790: slaves overthrew their overlords. The revolution generated fear in the US slave states & in 1803 New Orleans, the plantation owners sought to have the existing free black militia disarmed and excluded from positions in which they were required to bear arms.
Slave states passed laws to disarm all blacks. In Maryland, these prohibitions went so far as to prohibit free blacks from owning dogs without a license & authorizing whites to kill an unlicensed dog owned by a free black. Mississippi banned ownership of a dog by a black person.
Many Leftists are calling for licensing of gun owners, they need to know that the 1798 KY Comprehensive Act allowed slaves & free blacks “to keep & use guns, powder, shot, & weapons, offensive & defensive" as long as blacks had a required license. Whites had no such requirement.
The end of slavery didn't eliminate the racist gun control laws. Black Codes enacted post-Civil War required blacks to obtain a license before carrying or possessing any weapons. These restrictive gun laws helped the efforts of the Republicans to get the 14th Amendment ratified.
In 1911, NY passed the Sullivan Law, which requires a person to obtain a license, issued at the discretion of LE, to possess a handgun. The law was to prevent handgun ownership by Italians & Irish immigrants who were thought untrustworthy. Remember, "No Irish need apply"?
Back to the 14th, an armed black man is more capable of fighting back against a white robed & hooded thug. An NRA club, The Black Armed Guard, was formed by Robert Williams specifically to help protect the black residents of Monroe, NC from the KKK in the mid 1950s.
1957: aft KKK threats to a black doctor, Dr. Albert E. Perry, the KKK organized a caravan of cars to shoot up his home. When the caravan, which was accompanied by 2 police cars, approached the home, the Black Armed Guard opened fire on the cars, forcing their retreat.
Robert Sherrill wrote, “The Gun Control Act of 1968 was passed not to control guns but to control blacks. Inasmuch as the legislation passed in 1968 had nothing to do with the guns used in the assassinations of King & Kennedy, it seems reasonable to assume that...
the law was directed at that other threat of the 1960s, more omnipresent than the political assassin, namely the black rioter. With the horrendous rioting of 67 & 68, Congress again was panicked toward passing some law that would shut off weapons access to blacks."
His words ring true as most people convicted of federal firearms violations are Black.

Saturday Night Specials: Baltimore, in 1990, under the guise of protecting people from unsafe guns used in crime, banned compact, less expensive, small-caliber handguns.
These guns were commonly used for defense in poor, minority populated areas of Balto by the people most often victimized by crime. These guns were not preferred by criminals & were involved in about 1-3% of all crimes. Yet, the ban passed & it hurt those it purported to protect.
I can keep on but I hope y'all get the idea by now that #GunSense is #racist & #sexist nonsense.

No more.
