There are a couple more stories that I wish to tell.
Before I regale my first experience in an electric vehicle.
1/14
So please bare with me.
These are all important parts of the Pangea jigsaw...
I studied Economics, Maths and Physics at A-level.
The Physics A-level syllabus in the late 90s was pretty dry.
2/14
But we were blessed with an amazing teacher.
Who would teach in tangents.
His stories, insights, and anecdotes were incredibly rich in context and variety.
3/14
As we approached our exams, we were all beginning to wonder how on earth we were going to obtain the grade.
And then it all came together.
As if by magic.
4/14
You see, all the elements of his teaching methodology.
When combined.
And with the benefit of hindsight.
Contained small parts of the syllabus subtly woven in.
5/14
Rather than being tuned out during our lessons.
We were absolutely tuned in.
And so the learnings, references, and syllabus stuck.
As did his out-of-the-box way of thinking.
6/14
Brilliant.
A short anecdote of my own.
While working in Singapore for BlackRock in 2013.
7/14
I was asked by one of our largest clients to conduct two educational session on yielding assets in a low interest rate environment (equity dividends, corporate bond yields etc).
Unlike most of these sessions.
8/14
I was under strict instructions not to reference any of our products or solutions.
So I hatched a plan with a close colleague.
On arrival, I introduced my presentation in a suit and tie.
Nothing unusual.
9/14
Then I told the 80 or so bankers in the room I was about to switch into my professor persona.
Out of the bag beside me I pulled a cravat, mortar board, gown, wooden stick, and lens free black rimmed glasses.
10/14
Off came my suit and tie.
On went my props.
The presentation continued.
Word of my act spread.
11/14
At the following session the next morning, there must have been 160 people in attendance.
Standing room only.
All thanks to a way of thinking inspired by @IanYorston.
12/14
In my post tomorrow morning, I'll describe the power of a short book that I've read from cover-to-cover at least a dozen times.
And each time I read it, I take a new learning from it.
13/14
Please do stay tuned and follow both @pangeaimpact and @nstoop10 to join us for the ride.
