Today we are launching the Smart Data Innovation Guidebook, with support from our colleagues at @beisgovuk, to help regulators, govt bodies and others implement #SmartData schemes and create value through #data innovation
#SmartData is the secure sharing of customer #data with authorised third-party providers, upon the customer’s request
The providers then use this data to provide innovative services for the consumer or business user, e.g. automatic switching or better account management
(2/10)
#SmartData is a data portability initiative, allowing individuals to obtain & reuse personal #data for their own purposes across different services
Estimates suggest that greater personal data mobility could increase UK GDP by approx. £27.8bn pa
The Smart Data Innovation Guidebook is the end result of lots of research & discussions with regulators, govt & large corporates – as well as industry roundtables with data users like SMEs, academic researchers & nonprofits/charities
The Guidebook provides guidance on the types of different #datainfrastructure that organisations can build & connect to in order to innovate with smart data – e.g. data assets, standards and organisations like #datainstitutions and intermediaries
The Smart Data Innovation Guidebook gives a brief overview of the existing #SmartData schemes – Open Banking, Open Finance, Open Communications and Open Energy – communicating the needs and benefits through #data spectrums and #dataecosystem maps
The Guidebook also contains the Innovation Programme Inventory, which lists #innovation programmes currently in place within the #SmartData ecosystem – plus those with the potential to inspire Smart Data schemes, such as the #DigitalSandbox, Open Banking ecosystem & more
(7/10)
Finally, the Smart Data Innovation Guidebook provides our view of how #SmartData could evolve based on our experience with Open Banking – and how we have seen other data initiatives build a foundation, grow and mature 🌱
The Smart Data Innovation Guidebook is still in its alpha phase, so we'll be testing it this year as #SmartData is set to expand further in the finance, energy & telecoms sectors
We’re always looking for feedback from others in this space, so let us know what you think!

#SmartData is an important part of the UK national #datainfrastructure, by providing the policy impetus for greater data portability
We’ll be looking to make this ecosystem more open and trustworthy, so come join us on our journey! 🤝
